Nice video. I have 2023 GTI 40th anniversary edition and noticed the same thing you mentioned re: revs/staying/lurching in low gear. I’m glad you said something so now I know it’s legit. I also miss the sunglasses holder; had one on my mk5. Also wholly agree with your issues with the carpet. Cheapo. It should also be stated that this is my third GTI. I had a ‘98 that I drove for 15 years and almost 300k without any major issues. It’s a car that I love dearly, and this newest version does feel quite luxurious as compared to previous models, but is still a joy to drive. Gotta go manual, though. Have fun.🕹️🏁

Just picked up a 2023 40th anniversary special this week and can tell I am really going to love it. Previously had a 2019 Mk 7.5. Already noticed it lies about what drive mode it is in when you start it, which I found weird. And the fog lights are so cool I want them on all the time but forget I have to turn them on manually. And I do miss the overhead sun glass holder bin as well. So it was interesting to hear you say the same things. Good video. Glad you love the car overall! 👍

I've got the performance trim (top trim in Canada) which came with the amazing Hankook Evo S UHP at 19in. These are top tier and same detailed reviews put them just behind the pilot sport. Also of Mk8 owners don't know (only in top trim though) you can set the DCC 3 full levels ABOVE sport or 3 full levels BELOW comfort...this customization is incredible and really changes both sport and comfort.

My biggest complaint (I have the 2022 Pomello Autobahn GTI) is that wireless Apple CarPlay doesn’t work well at all. Seems to lose connection to my brand new iPhone (or any iPHone I use) every 60 seconds or so. If I use a lightning cable or just Bluetooth audio it works fine. Very annoying because I would prefer to use the iPhone interface in the infotainment. Other than that, the car is killer

With the drive mode issue, how can you tell it's not persisting between stop and startup? I've got a 2022 as well and keep it in sport. Icon says sport when I start it up and steering stays in sport mode (heavier steering rather than comfort)

Miss the 10 speed ? I’ve had veloster n’s and tuned golf r’s and those cars tuned don’t compare 2 the 10 speed . I just got one two weeks ago I love it ! Congrats on the new car .

I like the prop hood better in the long run because you can depend on it working and that yellow on the prop rod is to grab so you don't burn your hand when using it. The fog lights are better in my opinion to need turning on when needed. Not automatically. I am okay without the proximity unlock feature. Especially if it saves me money because it is actually more secure. Sunglasses compartment missing, no problem as many of them rattle with glasses in them or the glasses fall out when opening them. And I will buy the manual if I get one, or any other car, so the DSG problem when cold would not affect me. :)

Legitimate gripes. Unfortunately, I had to get out of my 23 GTI-S. VW wanted me to pay the shop service fee to determine if my issue was covered by warranty. Started with two hours, but after two days it was six hours. I didn’t like the games, so I traded the GTI for a new base model Atlas blue 23 Mustang GT manual. Love it more than the pre-owned twister orange 21 GT Premium auto. Hope you don’t have any issues with VW service. 🤘

4:00 man you need to wait a moment when you turn engine on untill revs drop to normal values, it takes a minute. If you just start it and go revs will go way too high

Why should the fog light stay on? Should the fog backlight also stay on?

My 2022 Autobahn has an intermittent issue with sound system. It will randomly not work, like it’s muted. The fix is to turn off the car. Doesn’t happen too often, but super annoying.

The most annoying thing for me is the audio EQ bug with the HK system. You need to toggle settings just like the drive modes to get it working correctly (severe lack of bass and flat). I love it otherwise.

To your points: You really only need to reselect your drive mode. You don’t need to toggle between a different mode.

As for the fogs, I wanted mine to always be on when the headlights are on, and OBDEleven actually added a one click app for that a couple months ago. Works perfectly!

Wait if it only lets you get to 127 top speed why would they bother putting 160 on the dash??
