Thank you for sharing this. It has been hard not knowing how our friend’s island home was hit, and of course the whole island and town of Boca Grande. Heartbreaking seeing the backside of Mother Nature.

So sad. I worked at the first dog grooming salon there back in 2012. The trip across the bridges to the island was comparable to the Caribbean islands. So beautiful!

Beautiful island that we have spent many years on, awful to see the destruction!

So sad to see the damage, it must be a beautiful place before. Hope everyone there could make it through the hard time

This is a barrier Island. It's not a matter of IF but WHEN it gets damaged again.
ALL barrier Islands should be uninsurable so the rest of Florida doesn't have to pay huge rates to subside people who play Russian roulette.

Great little town and I don't know why it hasn't gotten more attention from the media about this horrific devastation, but what about the country club and golf course? It's probably the most popular spot in Boca Grande

I WATCHED ON RADAR that while my house was basically safe, few branches, flooded ditches, seen worse summer storms, but found it shocking how the wind direction & wind speed was just hammering away at boca grande, for Hours & hours, the worse wind direction because it was driving the storm suge directly onto land relentlessly. So without news I KNEW bOCA gRANDE WAS GONNA BE bad, bt didnt realize it was going to be THAT bad, going there in person 2 days later, just sickening, sad. the devistation was overwhealming .

Pointless to rebuild in such a vulnerable place with construction methods that have no possible chance of surviving the next certain storm.

Looking forward to this beautiful area to be back to normal again! 🙏

Where’s everyone at? Not one person except a front end loader and a couple of trucks..

I've worked there, part of construction crews. Extremely costly homes all over that island.

Have been working there in construction for 30 years, this is the worst I've seen. Work is still being finished from Ian's hit. My guess, this will take a long time, but it will be rebuilt.

My parents and I moved to Placida in 1972. There has never been damage to this extent. So sad

7 weeks later and the entire place is still a dump. Why?

Had the water ever come up that high before?

Mother Nature has to humble you every so often to show you who’s really in charge. She just did a little landscaping adjustments.

It will be rebuilt within 12 months. It is too special a place to not be rebuilt soon.
