7 Early Signs of a Nervous Breakdown to Never Ignore!
– A sense of overwhelm.
A director of a mental health treatment at Newport Academy in Connecticut, Doctor Heather Monrow, explains that social situations can seem overwhelming and even small daily tasks may feel like too much to handle when you are going through a mental breakdown.
– Frequent panic attacks.
A panic attack is an awful experience, which includes a sudden urge of overwhelming fear and anxiety. You may feel like you are losing your mind, or even dying. The most common symptoms include extreme dizziness, chest pain, a racing heartbeat, and difficulty breathing.
– Brain fog.
It’s an unofficial medical term used to describe an abnormality of the overall consciousness level. Your brain’s executive functions, including memory, decision-making, self-control, planning, and attention, are often the first to experience the brunt of brain fog.
– Depression and/or anxiety.
Depression and anxiety are 2 catalysts of a nervous/mental breakdown. For instance, you may first notice a slight inability to focus or a difficulty getting out of bed.
– Chronic fatigue.
Your brain and body aren’t designed to withstand constant stress. Long-term distress can sap your cognitive energy, draining your bodily energy. It can result in fatigue, which may interfere with your ability to perform your everyday activities.
– Poor sleep or excessive sleep.
Sleep is typically used as a coping mechanism. Insomnia-like symptoms are triggered by hormonal changes, overthinking, and substance abuse. Excessive sleep can reinforce avoidance behaviour.
– Drug or alcohol abuse.
Substance abuse and mental breakdown usually go hand-in-hand. Both are usually used as a method of coping. But, they just aggravate the problem. It goes without saying that chronic alcohol or drug abuse can damage your body, rewire your brain, and intensify any other symptoms.
