It's been an action packed month. We have fought like tigers to get this far and we have lost a lot of people in the process. The fighting has also been closed combat. Shovels, bayonets, fists, feet, even using the las-rifle as a club. If you get close enough, you use what is available. On Talleran, near enough every day is a fight for survival, scrapping comes naturally to us. One of the things that makes Talleran Infantry a fearsome opponent.

Yesterday, myself and 8 others disabled a Helgan tank. That was a scary moment, especially when it opened up the machine gun. Still, 4 Helgans and a 30 tonne murderous tin can are no longer in the field.

I'm sat in a storage shed. This one has the distinct smell of hay. It's actually pretty warm in here. Some of us have agreed we will spend the night here before moving on. We are having something to eat before wrapping up for the evening.

There's a rumour floating round that the Navy will get involved. Colonel Darwin has run into a couple of difficulties and has requested some more firepower. We will see what unfolds in the coming days.

Private Amanda Keyes, 511th Talleran Infantry, signing off

It may look rough but it's secure and a decent place to sleep and recover away from the chaos.

It's been raining for about a month now and this forest world is alive with activity. The 722nd have been pushed back 20 miles after making good progress, they're closing our right flank now.

The Tallerans have taken a heavy amount of casualties, but have fought bravely under the murderous onslaught they have endured, but then again, that's hardly surprising. Those born on Talleran are natural scrappers, and I'm glad they're on our side.

The 4th Rangers have done well. There are 18 men and women in front of me right now, but they're so well camouflaged, it would take the best snipers in both the Helgan and Earth Empires to find them.

The explosions we can hear are from tanks exchanging fire with each other. Looks like the Helgans brought an armoured division with them too.

We sadly lost one of our officers yesterday, a Lieutenant George Potter. He was a good soldier, very well liked, and was my platoon leader.

Still, we have to keep going. I'm taking this lull in the fighting to have a glo stick and a cup of caff before moving on. Most of my unit is doing the same thing.

Corporal William Driver, 4th Rangers, signing off

21st May 2257

There's a lull in the fighting at the moment. The tank's engine is slowly ticking over as I sit and write.

Its raining, has been since April. The rain is going to carry on until September. At the current time all the hatches on the tank are closed up. We are staying dry, even though the infantry are going to be pissed wet through.

We have decided to call this tank "Daisy Stomper". It was a name our driver, Corporal Allen, thought of. We also lost a tank, "Oddball", this morning via tank on tank exchange. A High Velocity round lanced through the ammunition deck and caused the thing to go up in a slow fireball. That means we have lost Captain Pattama and his crew. Still, it's not a problem, Lieutenant Hill is now in charge of our unit. We actually had a High Velocity round fire at us too, but it ricocheted off. The ringing that followed was like being sat inside a bell that's been struck. We went temporarily deaf for about an hour.

The fact a High Velocity round was used against us means the Helgans have fielded Paladin tanks. High Velocity rounds also whistle loudly as they shoot by you. Ive seen holographic animations of these things and what i saw in the animation, they were formidable looking. Having fought against them now, I have a lot of respect for their crews. But still, we destroyed the vehicle and it's a charred wreck about a mile behind us.

Rumour has it that Colonel Darwin has ran into a whole heap of trouble. If what we are hearing is true, he's been on the horn to the Imperial Navy and been almost pleading with them to bombard a few positions.

Just heard from the head of the column that we are about to move again. Let's get back into action.

Warrant Officer Lucy Tiler, 17th Armoured Division, signing off

It started when a man was running around in the street yelling at the drivers in the passing cars. "Help! Please help! They're coming! Listen to me we're in danger! They're after you! They're after all of us! Our friends, our families our children! They're already here! You're next!!!! You're next!!!"

😺😺😸😸 4/5 Tigers.
The good: Volume, treble and bass are overall very good balanced here, the volume needed a small 10% reduction at the speakers, the rain sound is constant and very good.
The bad: The thumping sound that happens continuously every 2 minutes or so, while it may sound all right as distant explosions or similar, it absolutely overwhelms the rain sound, dropping bass to 0 at the speakers doesn't help, this thumping will wake you up, Probably can use this sound for work but for sleep? Not likely. 😵

7th May 2257

This morning at 10am the Helgans launched an attack.

That was 6 hours ago. The fight is still raging on.

There has been very bitter fighting on Tantal, the 722nd never forgets a battle, and we have a score to settle since the battle of Arhus 3 months ago.

The same Helgan Commander who beat us there, is here with the Helgan 12th army. The 17th armoured division, 511th Telleran infantry, 4th Rangers and ourselves have been on this planet for 6 months, and originally, we were 20 miles north of here until the Helgans pushed us back. There are two things we are lacking here. Artillery and air support. Neither of these can be used to great effect on a forest world such as this, apparently.

Its got very desperate for us that we have pretty much begged the Imperial Navy to conduct orbital bombardment of Helgan positions. If I remember, last night Colonel Darwin's exact words were "burn the fucking forest down with us in it if you have to!" - here's hoping they do the smart thing and strike where needed.

Do I see a loose vent pipe? We better call maintenance and take care of that. I don't know what that mist/smoke is coming out of it.

"Operation: Rising Dawn
_Classified:_ *[Destroy After Reading!]*

Objective: Complete the encirclement of *<Designation Zone Alpha in your Code-sheet>* as rapidly as possible. Facilitate entrenching activities along the outer edge of *<Alpha>* and support airborne assualt of *<Target Zulu>* to--"

The soldier sighs and drops his pencil, stretching his hand out and wiggling his fingers as he stares down at the final iteration of hand-written orders to be delivered to the various battalions participating in the assault tomorrow.

'Boy, it was going to be a big one.' He thinks to himself, as the rain starts to numb his throbbing mind and ease his thoughts.

He glances down at the pile of completed orders. The jumble of codewords and nicknames for things makes it a hot mess to read without context, but that was just a natural part of dealing with something like this.

'Our only strength in our resistance is our unpredictability and our determination. That's honestly it.' He admits to himself, the only person he ever would, 'They outgun us, outnumber us, and seemingly out strategise us in open warfare.'

But, the alien invaders seem quite baffled by even the most basic guerilla tactics.
Lucky for the defenders, they seem to have an overall high trust-based culture on their homeworld. One that hadn't exposed them to the brutalities of that style of warfare.

To the brutalities of the things that humans can be.

The soldier shakes his head and picks up the pencil again, looking over his other messages to remember his place and keeps writing. He had one more to do, and then a few trusted delivery boys to track down in this downpour.

And then sleep.

It had been days since he had had a complete nights worth. And may be a few more days yet until he does.

But that wasn't on his mind right now. No.

It was the thumping _thwacks_ and *thuds* that echoed into his shelter from kilometres beyond their forest-covered home. It is their victory that he holds on to.

It was all they had left to hope for. They wanted their home back.

"We're coming for you, " he says aloud as he folds the orders neatly and seals them behind some old timey wax seals, "With everything we've got left."
