George Wingfield earned his mining fortune by age 30 alongside his partner, United States Senator George S Nixon. Following their company Goldfield Consolidated Mining Company going public in 1906, Wingfield moved to Reno and became involved in politics, banking, ranching, and briefly owned the Riverside Hotel of downtown Reno. It was on George Wingfield’s Spanish Springs Ranch where Red Hawk Golf and Resort was developed.

Wingfield Springs is 20 minutes from Reno in the northern area of Sparks. The community surrounds Red Hawk Golf and Resort, alongside Cimarron, Cimarron Highlands, and Pioneer Meadows. Red Hawk is home to two 18-hole courses; the Lakes Course and the Hills Course. Club members can access a practice range & bunkers, David’s Grill, a community pool, and a fitness center. The Villas at Red Hawk is a unique lodging alternative to the large casino resorts of Reno and Sparks.

There is an abundance of recreational opportunities around Wingfield Springs. Within the region is the Golden Eagle Regional Park and Sports Complex. Six softball fields, two baseball fields, four Little League fields, two multi-use fields, and a football and soccer field make up the park, all made of artificial turf. Whatever activity brings you to the park, enjoy a meal or snack between games from Red’s Golden Eagle Grill located in the center of the softball fields. A variety of parks are spread throughout Wingfield Springs, like Del Cobre Park and Kestrel Park. Lazy 5 Regional Park is northwest of the community, near the Spanish Springs Library. It is home to a playground, a water play park, and the Spanish Springs Skatepark.

Pioneer Meadows Marketplace is in between Wingfield Springs and Pioneer Meadows. It’s home to Raley’s, Fiesta Mexicana, and an Anytime Fitness. On the corner of Los Altos Parkway and Vista Boulevard, is Aspen Glen Shopping Center. In this center, enjoy a cup of coffee from Lighthouse Coffee or a cocktail at Oak Tavern. There is an Eagle Fitness across the intersection on Los Altos Parkway. Spanish Springs Center is only a block south of Aspen Glen, home to adored restaurants Squeeze In, Los Compadres, Pizza Baron, and Sneakers.

Five miles from Wingfield Springs, you’ll find a Walmart Supercenter and Kohls on Pyramid Way that overlook the Sparks Galleria. Sparks Galleria is a larger shopping center featuring Bed Bath & Beyond, Best Buy, Cost Plus World Market, and Ross. For your grocery needs, visit Sprouts and Costco Wholesale at the Galleria. The galleria is popular for meetups at restaurants like Tha Joint Sushi & Grill, Blind Onion Pizza & Pub, Campo, Red Robin, or CJ Palace. Fitness Connection is a fantastic athletic facility available to residents of Wingfield Springs.

Nugget Hotel Casino is a huge attraction for the community with over 900 slot machines and table games, a skywalk arcade, and the neighboring Victorian Square. The square around Victorian Avenue is the site of fantastic shops, restaurants, and bars, like locally owned and operated BJ’s Nevada Barbecue Company. Victorian Square is the annual host of the Best in the West Nugget Rib Cook-Off, a week-long barbecue competition and street fair. Ten minutes east on Interstate 80 is the Outlets at Legends, an outdoor retail center with over 50 different retailers like SCHEELS, a Nike Factory Store, and Fitness for 10. Catch the latest movie release at Galaxy Sparks IMAX Luxury Theater or share a pizza at Grimaldi’s Pizzeria.

Wingfield Springs has excellent schools from the Washoe County School District. Van Gorder Elementary School is the first school students will attend, located within Wingfield on the northwestern side of Red Hawk Golf and Resort. [Video Correction] Shaw Middle School is west of the community. Spanish Springs High School takes care of teenagers in Wingfield Springs. The Spanish Springs Cougars joined the district in 2001, making it one of the newer highs schools in northern Nevada.
