👩🏻‍🦰 A B O U T M E:
Ashley is a soil scientist who has had a passion for plants since she was a small child. In the long summers as a child, she would garden alongside her grandmother and it was then that she realized her love for greenery. With years of great studying, Ashley had begun her post-secondary education at the University of Saskatchewan.
At first, her second love, animals, was the career path she chose but while doing her undergrad she realized that her education would take her elsewhere. And with that, four years later she graduated from the University of Saskatchewan with a bachelor’s degree in science and a major in Soil Science.
Some of Ashley’s interests are YouTube, in which she posts informative videos about plants and gardening. The focus of Ashley’s YouTube channel is to bring science to gardening in a way that is informative but also helpful to others learning to garden. She also talks about the importance of having your own garden and the joys of gardening indoors. Ashley continues to study plants in her free time and hopes to expand her YouTube channel as well as her reach to up-and-coming gardeners.

I would be interested to know who here is going to try and get a second harvest off in a cold climate? What are you doing to make it happen?

Zone 5b, and I just use row covers and leaf mulch.
Arugula, spinach, daikon, kale, corn salad, red leaf lettuce, parsnips, carrots
Whatever survives survives
It just gets too snowy and cold by January for anything to reliably survive thru the winter, but anything I get is a "bonus".

Watching from Wyoming it can get down to -25 F in winter here so your channel is so helpful to me. Thank you.

Thanks again, love having a Canadian/zone 3 channel. I'd love to see a video on seed saving tips & tricks. One that not only shows the best way to save, but optional "ok" things. This year I had to pull my peas out early and our out of the ordinary humid and rainy summer was making some of the plants rot, so I pulled the whole deal. I'm testing a few to see if they'll germinate.

I live in Laval Québec zone 5, we built 2 homemade greenhouses
In July August sept I grow spinach with a perpetual one, 80 différents lettuce, bett, kolabry, different kale, radish, carrot, celery, oignon, garlic
The soil of the greenhouse will freeze at the end of dec
In march I go in the greenhouse and I sow directly on the frozen soil when the temperature of the SOIL will be alright for the seed
Ex: 0 spinach, 4C lettuce, 10C tomatoes, 25C melon family
I let lettuce and other green growing until flowering and it regrow by them self ….. FREE garden !
In the front of my house I put plastic on the box for 1-2 months in autumn and spring

I love the research you do. Thank you. I am in zone 4 but we have many very huge dips in temps. Last spring NY lost many, many apples due to a late freeze. Thank you so much for all the great ideas. Don’t know how you do all of this with a family and a job. Happy you can. Love it!

Perfect timing! I never thought about using oil for a heat sink. My dad used water bottles to keep it cooler in the day during summer.

Been seeing my breath at night & I’m a zone4/5. Right on the line lol. It all depends on the lake affect here in Michigan.
