1983 Mercedes-Benz 240D - time to say goodbye

In this video, I say farewell to my 1983 Mercedes-Benz 240D, which I bought in early 2012, and was the subject of a video series I ran through 2015, as I fixed the car up.

It went to an enthusiastic new owner. Here's to hoping it sees a lot more miles.

If I had $6, 000 I would give it to you man. Fuck dude but at least the next one you restore will be even better now that you have the experience. You saved my ass a few times with your videos over the years. I distinctly remember trying to bleed the clutch on my 300d for a few days. I was very close to giving up, but I found your video showing that in some cases you have to unhook the clutch master cylinder in order to bleed the clutch. That ended up working, but anyways man your videos have helped me a lot and I am sad to see your car go. I think we all are a little sad for you, but yeah there are plenty of W123s out there for you in the future. Take care

Good luck with the sale, hopefully your circumstances are easily remedied. I gotta say, I am impressed with the paint job on that car!

Sad to see you are selling your car, Your videos were very helpful when I was working on my 1978 240D project which I recently completed.

Sad to see her go but I’m sure the new owner will love it and you can always pickup another down the road.

I was a little shocked when you said it had been 7 years since you bought the merc, feels like yesterday.
Goodbye old girl.

Hi, I appreciate this detailed video that you have put together and shared with the public. Where can I find torque specifications that you mentioned in the video? Is there a web link? I have a W126 1991 MB 300SEL.

Sorry to hear about that. I thought that you were going to keep it forever like the vanagon. I’m assuming you didn’t sell that one as well?

Hi there. Sorry to hear you had to sell it. I watched your progress from down in New Zealand with interest - I`m working on 230CE with similar rust issues. Can I ask a question. How did you feel the Eastwood Rust Encapsulator worked out? I recall you used it a lot on the floors / substructure. I`d like to do the same and am keen to know if it works. I`ve heard mixed opinions of POR 15, which seems to be the nearest equivalent. Thanks for all the videos. James

These W123's creep into one's blood. A bit of truth in what someone mentioned. (Them being slow for today's traffic.) I find that true, even for my 300D (non turbo).
Still I miss my 300D, nothing else seems to give the quality ride on bad road surfaces. (Which is very related to South African road conditions.) 👋🏻

Btw, did you keep the MP3 radio that you installed in this car?

Why would you sell it after all that. Doesn’t make sense at all.

Had a 240d manual. Wonderful car but just too damn slow for traffic today. Highway on ramps were nightmares. A car that is unfortunately irrelevant today.
