At orientation you get told the definition of the defined plan. People are mostly looking for guarantees and will take this pension option. The 401k and those new things are only now being tested. From the time they were created and people joined on its only now we're getting to see if they truly match up to pensions in retirement which were around long before 401ks. Majority of people are not savvy investors. The stock market is filled with greedy folks that would profit off 401ks losing value

Now I think you are referring to cooperate Defined compensation plans. Those pension plans would be something like correct me if I'm wrong with the airlines had years ago and defaulted on so many employees. I personally am retired under a Public Employee Retirement System with a defined retirement plan. It is supported in the constitution of our state. It's been effective for many years the only problem with it is typically they are not 100% funded. Ours is somewhere between 75% in above funded and we hold I believe 50 to 60 billion in assets. Very safe. So safe that when California Pers went broke the state tried to hire our head guy to run their CalPers. Please advise
