Jonathan has always loved the iMac. But after using the M1 model for over two years he’s pushed it’s limits. Will the upgraded new model do the trick?

I really like to think Johnathan loved the imac so much Linus let him have 2 completely different setups right beside each other

I work at bestbuy and back when the Imac had m1 CPU the hardest thing about my job was getting people to understand why the m2 mac mini was better and cheaper, a lot of them would think the monitor on display for the mac mini was the computer....this will make my job ALOT easier lmfao

Jonathan's obsession with the new iMac form factor is fascinating. I can't say I understand it, but I'm happy for him that he finally got an upgraded model. Also, working with one screen isn't that weird. I've learned to do it over the last few years primarily because of my need to reduce the number of heat producing devices in my space.

Mac Address has to be one of the best LMG Channels, the writing and hosting from Horst is just top notch, the music and visuals really make it feel like its tailored to how apple would produce something

MA is actully the only channel under roof of LMG that for some reason feels premium and organised. itr is always plesent to watch.

another important thing that is missing for the 2 port 1299 base model iMac is the cooling fan that directly cools the CPU heatsink. This means the base model is essentially passively cooled.

If I’m not mistaken, the hardware ray tracing in Blender works from version 4.0, not 3.6.1. Would be interesting to see updates results ❤

Adding hardaware photos besides the graphs was super nice!
Should have added M2 besides the MacBook Pro and RAM below like for the other Mac in the graph.

The iMac should come with a video-input so you could use it as an external monitor with your other devices, or when the internals eventually get outdated

im not even an apple person, but ive liked the imacs for ages. they never were for what i needed them to do, but for many of my family members, they're exactly what they need. they take up little space, are able to be spec'd for good speed and power, and they look excellent.

8GB RAM regardless of the SoC’s strengths, is criminal. A fucking etch-a-sketch needs more.

I purchased the orange as well at the end of December after much thought. I have a PC laptop and a base M1 MacBook Air for the work I do. I don’t travel much anymore and the iMac was the perfect replacement to my 12 year old PC behemoth tower. The tower had various upgrades and I was over it, and Windows. So far the iMac has been great for the photo editing and basic video editing I do. I did max out to the 24mb RAM to ensure no regrets as I know I will make this last a while. The biggest benefit has been the minimal space and it’s so quiet. Bliss.

The M1 iMac was my first Mac ever and I really got me through most of my college classes especially my Video Editing course. However there were a lot of weak areas when it came to app support at the time and gaming. I completed BioShock Infinite on it via Parrells in window mode to get a good framerate. Nowadays, it sits on an arm next to my PC whenever I need to do something quick or need extra space my desk where's my PC has a large drawing monitor. If anyone is looking to get an iMac get the VESA mount option.

I think it’s funny that photographers/videographers are the ones paying the price for these “better” machines. They got YouTube videos to upload! As a software engineer, I’m still rocking the M1 Pro and honestly, 20-30 seconds of waiting in between compilation is not a big deal as some people might want you to think.

I like the idea of the iMac. It is a great machine for minimalistic setups. Personally, I prefer modular setups though, which is why I went with a Mac Studio M1 Max. I prefer modular setups, so in the future I can just upgrade the Mac Studio and not have to pay for a new monitor, keyboard, etc. When buying a new iMac, you are paying to replace what could be a perfectly fine display, just for a faster chip. Which makes sense for some, but not for me.

The imac can’t get TB4 certification as it doesn’t support two external monitors. Something the Mini does as it doesn’t have an internal display. Still, the bandwidth of the ports are the same. 40Gbps.

one of the major selling point of imac is its screen in pre apple silicon era, however, that no longer holds true when i can get better miniled, oled, or led screen with mac mini undercutting imac's price in hundreds of dollars. the presence of an all in one is not that competing suddenly. i really wish apple to roll out a better screen solution as it has been in earlier years, which was the sole reason I prefer buying macs over windows laptops.
