This was such a sad yet somehow heartwarming scene. I interpret it as Caleb growing more and more accepting of what happened in his life and looking into the future, instead of changing the past. He may never forgive himself, but he definitely feels more focused on leaving the world better than he found it. Wonderful animation to illustrate the scene <3

I lost my cat a while back. His name was Phinny. I started c2 and drew an allegory between caleb and frumpkin to myself and phinny pretty fast, and this scene came and just slaughtered me. Im so glad he's home now, but I miss my familiar. All I can think of as matt is describing the wordless understanding is looking to my sweet boy's eyes on the hospital table as he was being put to sleep, that I just had to hope that he trusted me. I'm so sorry. Thank you for the cathartic sobbing.

Caleb releases Frumpkin and finally sends all those letters he wrote to his parents, Veth overcomes her fear of water and gives her bottomless flask to Kingsley, Jester becomes a mature adult woman, Fjord finally learns how to show affection, Yasha returns home and finally formally bids farewell to Zuala, Caduceus decides to leave the Grove and go on his own adventures to see more of the outside world, Beauregard, well apart from resolving that business with her father and Zeenoth not much has changed for her. Character development across the board.

I had theorised that Frumpkin was the first of many desperate attempts to reclaim his past for ages and it was so satisfying to see it confirmed

This part was so sad, but it was necessary. Fae creatures should be free, it's wrong to keep them trapped in servitude. And to me, when Caleb finally released Frumpkin, he was at last coming to terms with his dark past. Frumpkin acted as a sort of living delusion, a crutch he relied on, denying the fact that his cat (family) was, in fact, dead. It was unhealthy psychologically to keep him around, and letting him go was a huge step in moving on. Thanks for the animation, made me tear up a little.
