Here is a cool vintage piece of American traveling circus history! An all-original peanut bag from the traveling circus!
Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey Circus, also known as "The Greatest Show on Earth", was a legendary American traveling circus company that was in operation from the late 19th century to the mid-2010s. The circus was created by the merger of two separate circuses owned by P.T. Barnum and James Anthony Bailey, which eventually became the Ringling Bros. Circus.
For over a century, Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey Circus entertained millions of people across the United States with its extravagant spectacles, featuring acrobatics, clowns, animal acts, tightrope walkers, and much more. The circus was known for its lavish costumes, intricate sets, and its use of exotic animals, particularly elephants.
Despite its popularity and cultural significance, the circus faced numerous controversies, particularly regarding the treatment of animals used in its shows. This eventually led to the retirement of the circus' elephant acts in 2016, and the circus as a whole in 2017, after 146 years of operation. The legacy of Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey Circus lives on in the Circus Arts programs at the Ringling Museum of Art in Sarasota, Florida, as well as in the memories of the countless people who experienced the magic and excitement of the circus over the years.
