Furniture construction angled cabinets with Hettich face angle hinges

If you plan to build furniture with overlaying doors, then you will probably face technical aspects such as finding the perfect setup of overlay and reveal, and choosing the correct hinge and mounting plate distance.

In this video, Hettich Product Manager Andreas Hippauf explains the options of the Hettich hinge ranges. Choose from full overlay hinges for e. g. single-door cabinets or half overlay hinges for e. g. cabinets with two doors mounted to a centre panel. The hinges influence the overlay of the door on the side panel as they differ in the hinge arm cranking, which is measured in the so-called base "B". This figure is given in the hinge catalogue.
Then select the correct mounting plate distance "D" to effect the overlay: a bigger distance creates a smaller overlay, a smaller distance creates a bigger overlay. This directly influences the reveal, which is also depending on the door thickness: door thickness -- overlay = reveal.
Finally, you can influence the reveal by setting the cup distance "C": this figure measures the distance between the edge of the door and the outer edge of the hinge cup hole and must be regarded when the door drilling is set.

Sounds difficult? There is a simple calculation available in the catalogue.
Mounting plate distance D = Cup distance C + Base B -- Overlay A.
Simply enter the cup distance already set on your machine or drilling jig, the hinge base as given next to the hinge in the catalogue and your desired overlay. If the exact mounting plate distance is not available, you may either change the cup distance or the overlay, or use the overlay adjustment integrated in the hinge for fine adjustment.

The approach is the same for all standard full and half overlay Hettich hinges of the series Sensys, Intermat and SlideOn.
