NASA says it will pay SpaceX $843 million to develop a vehicle capable of dragging the International Space Station out of orbit.

The orbiting laboratory, roughly the size of a football field, weighs nearly one million pounds.

The agency said that it wants SpaceX to have this de-orbit vehicle ready for use by 2029.

Why not just build a device to disconnect it piece by piece and return it back to earth for study?

Don't they have a module up there that won't make it back to Earth? And I would think the orbit means get it out of orbit, crash it

It would be cool if space x can bring the space station down to earth.

Dismantle it and use the modules to construct a moon base. Why not?
