Very true.
More than 5 years ago, I was walking out of a restaurant from 🎄🎄🎄dinner with coworkers. One lady aggressively yelled, “I LOVE YOUR OUTFIT.” For a sec. I thought she wanted to fight me. But….awwww….

My general rule is to give compliments on things the person has a choice in. Compliment the way they style their hair, the way they do their makeup, the clothes they're wearing, that kinda thing. Otherwise, you risk either accidentally hitting a really sore point for someone or just kinda coming across as a bit of an ass by commenting on someone's body. There's a world of difference between "I love your dress! The drape of the fabric really suits you; you look gorgeous!" and "omg, you're so skinny! I wish I looked like you!"

I feel you. It's easier to internalise the 5 negative comments and overlook the 100s of positive compliments! I'm glad you can bounce back after the tough moments

I agree!! I do it so often, my 4yr old son has noticed. He has naturally been giving compliments to family. But now he is giving them to strangers like me 🥰

Im so insecure about my height and i think all of my clothes looked so ugly on me and unflattering, but one time a lady complimented my style and said its cute, it boosted my confidence by millions

I agree!! I'll give compliments to strangers, because i know how it feels if i recieved them. some times having a complete stranger see you, makes you feel seen. I love this, and wish more werent too shy or nervous to give another a compliment.

Small acts of kindness are wonderful! I use to take the train to work and this one day just started off rough. Made it to the train and it’s packed. I’m standing there and this gentleman offered his seat and that completely turned my entire day around. That was at least 4 years ago and I think about that often when I’m having a rough day.

I always try to do this whenever I gather the confidence but often can’t bring myself to cuz massive amounts of social anxiety, but I absolutely agree and have so much appreciation for people who do. Like I use public transport most of the time and just some random day the bus driver complimented my boots (silver glittery with rainbow laces) with a genuinely friendly demeanour and it just totally made my day and whenever I was catching the bus at the time he worked we’d have mini-conversations of like a few sentences each as I got on, usually abt whatever I was wearing that day (wear a lot of bright colours), one of my favourites being when I wore different green dresses 4 days in a row, my favourite response being on the first day “you’re green!” And I always made sure to say “thank you” as I got off (I do most of the time on al buses, but sometimes I’m just too tired and overwhelmed to put in the effort, but I did for this guy even on bad days). I’m not sure if he ever noticed, but whenever i recognised he was driving as the bus pulled up I couldn’t help but perk up and start smiling a little, even on days when I was absolutely drained, I started to really look forward to whenever our paths crossed and whenever he was driving, it always ended my day just a bit better and the uphill walk from my stop to home didn’t seem as harsh. I really hope that he would notice the effect his short presence had on me and that our little chats made his days a bit better too. So yeah, just simple, inconsequential acts of kindness can really have such a massive impact on a person’s life, so I think if you can, you should.

That's what my daughter does. Since she was 6 years old now she's 14 she would tell people they are handsome or pretty. She especially liked telling cashiers a lot of them are women that they are pretty, or if they had their nails done or hair done she would tell them she liked it and they are pretty. The amount of people who just light up and melted when she would tell them would make me cry. She loves seeing people smile and my heart swells thinking of her doing that. Mimo, she has told me you are beautiful and she loves watching your videos.

So true! About 2 years ago, I was walking into Sam’s club when a guy said “wow you look amazing!” He wasn’t trying to hit on me or anything. He was just giving me a compliment. I still think about that all the time.

I believe this so deeply, but when actually placed in those situations my social anxiety has me by the freakin' throat dude! I'll be standing there internally screaming at myself to tell someone their shirt is awesome, or that they have beautiful hair, while externally frozen like a deer in headlights probably looking like a serial killer just staring at them 😂😂 After a few attempts of me just doing that, I eventually decided that if I can't say anything nice, it'd be much kinder to just walk away, then stare them down like my first meal in months 😂 Nobody can tell what I'm thinking, so it could come off super rude. Now I just briskly escape scenarios in close proximity to beautiful people, or keep my head down in general, because most people are beautiful 😂 At least, I do this while I'm still working on obtaining the courage to say what I really want to say lol!

So true! I remember when I performed in a high school choir concert and I was feeling kind of insecure about how I looked in general, and I did really try with my makeup for that night too. As I was walking out of the venue after it was over, a woman smiled and said to me, "Your face is so pretty." I blushed so hard and it made my day. I still think about that ❤
So I always try to compliment people, like when I think a woman's eyelashes are beautiful or their hair color is amazing.

Kind of reminded of when i was 10 or 11. I was getting a drink at the water fountain and this little girl was at it befor me. She was probably in the 1st or 2nd grade, and i remember she turned around a kind of jumped back in shock. I didn't know what to make of it than as i was getting a drink, and someone tapped me on the shoulder. It was that girl, and she told me, " You're pretty." she giggled and left. I'm in 30s now and think about how good that made me feel. Lol. It might be silly, but that was a rough time in my life, and those words were what i needed to hear. Compliments can really make someone's day.

I'm currently working as an usher for some really big theaters in a metropolitan city, so I see a lot of very interesting people and I always compliment them, and I get lots of compliments myself, everybody's happy and it makes everyone feel good
