'Disenchantment' season 1 has premiered on Netflix! Kim Horcher and B. Dave Walters discuss easter eggs, singular universe tie-ins, and nods to other Groening shows. Let us know which was your favorite in the comments below!

“Critics might not have been able to find a ton to love about Matt Groening's new series Disenchantment, at least in comparison to early love for The Simpsons or Futurama, but fans have been quite celebratory. The good news (everyone) for both parties is that quite a few awesome references to both shows made their way into the medieval Netflix comedy. We've compiled the best and most blatant references spotted in Season 1 so far, and like the elves of Elfwood, we couldn't wipe the grins from our faces after seeing these moments.”

I thought it was the strongest start to a series out of all three shows. So much talent involved! And there are many, many more Easter eggs in each episode. Eric Andre ftw

It is a great show. If you haven't watched The Simpson and Futurama like me you don't have any expectations. With unbiased eyes the show is great...

Yo what are you guys talking about disenchantment is the shit! It's so good and there's an actual story which makes it even better. Season 2 is so hype

It's not in the future. That part of the rewind button with the futurama characters reference an episode when they time travel.

I find it great! On-par with The Simpsons. Maybe Futurama.
Can't wait for Part 2!

I can't believe none of you realized the ultimate reference right under your is Bart Simpson I mean look at his shirt and shorts if that's not Bart I don't know also Tess's eye is a reference to when leela wanted to fit in with the humans so she had a googlely eye glue on

This one is unfamiliar but when the girl moaned about having to marry for nothing the woman said i had to kill a cow to marry. Witch is an reference to bart simpson having to marry to keep his cow alive

I think a large part of the problem may be that with the fantasy setting, the social commentary, which is a large part of the charm with Futurama and Simpsons is taken completely off the table.
Making say, Atheist commentaries in a Nuns convent just falls flat, when the magical setting is one where various Gods might actually exists, not to mention that you got a actual demon running around as a sidekick, combine that with the jokes being played way to safe and repetetive, the serie really just don't feels like it is worth watching.

The whole repeated gag about everybody dying of plague for instance got tired real quick as well and was just so disjointedly tied into the larger narrative when when you have "Bean" lamenting pretty much next to the corpse pits about how hard her life is because she has to undergo a arranged marriage it makes her seem incredibly priveligeblind, which to me ultimately made her seem way too douchy for me to find her likeable.
I dont usually mind Groenings quirky, flawed characters. That's what makes them relateable and ultimately likeable, but this was a bit too much for me.
I'm not about to bin the series just yet, as i have faith en Groenings track record, i just feel so indifferent and lukewarm at best towards The characters and hope that the first episode of the next season delivers something, otherwise i am pulling this off my watchlist.

What about when the execution was happening, bart and homer were in the crowd booing when bean said she wouldn’t do it

Kim. You say you've watched it repeatedly and it's fine? Who describes a thing they do repeatedly for entertainment as fine? I'm into your game. Points for subtlety. ⭐

Season one of the simpsons was good the voices were off and the animation was nothing to write home about but the humour was consistent and futurama maybe did pick up as it went along, episode one wasn't a masterpiece but 2-4 were great and after that you wouldn't know it was the first season looking back

I found Disenchantment quite underwhelming, dare I say even boring sometimes. It picks up pace after Ep.5 and even becomes slightly interesting towards the end yet still not nearly enough. I don't know maybe my expectations were too high... :/

A very boring (and too long) cartoon that faintly resembles the Simpsons. The jokes (which rely heavily on the fact that it’s medieval times) fall utterly flat. The show stinks.

Beautifully drawn, mediocre story (5 episodes in), but Disenchantment is just sooo NOT funny. AT ALL. The only thing that made me smile so far was the "Whores rouge, ladies leech" simpsons reference. When the best thing about your show are the the eastereggs referencing a show you made more than 2 decades ago, you got a problem.

Couldn’t make it past the second episode. Groening has really fallen off.
