All governments hinge their economic plans on growth and it's always been right at the centre of Prime Minister Keir Starmer's vision to create the country he wants.

With the chancellor's increase in investment, Sky's Ed Conway looks into the UK's economic growth and what it will look like in the years ahead.

That last graph is extremely deceptive, all it shows is the rate was stable in the morning and increase 0.15% after the speech, how does the increased rate compare with the rest of the month / year?

After experiencing being led by the Conservatives for 70% of my voting life since 1958 I find it despicable to think that our country is dropping faster in growth than ever before, and remembering that our Treasury gets the money to run our country from Taxation, Insurance and VAT and our figures show such appalling results, we can only blame the incompetence of the governing bodies who have failed our country. So the only way out it surely to follow the path that the new Government is planning for our country.

Just a note, the guilt yield went from ~3 to 4.4% in the truss budget. I think showing ~4-4.4% and calling a jump a bit dishonest. Add wider context please, maybe expand the plot 😂

Not pro labour, I'm just pro good data

The fun thing UK was able to have legacy trade deals when in the EU and enjoy lower taxes and now with brexit they have to tax like Germany.

The burden of these higher taxes are on those that make significant yearly gains, they truly are taxing the very rich. I thought I might see an impact to myself however I am surprised to see there is minimal change. I own my home, earn in the region of 30-35k a year, and because I lead a minimalist healthy lifestyle I save about 33% of my wages yearly to invest.

Highest taxes since WW2. Where as all the money gone. We have not fought a 6 year global war, so where the hell as all the £££ gone? How can the highest taxes since WW2 create future growth.

That investment spending will trigger growth leading to lower tax burden as a % of gdp in the future, not higher as being suggested by Sky news.

The reason why the tax buden under the tories rose as % of gdp, despite austerity, is because gdp and overall productivity fell (due to austerity) leading to higher tax burden by default.

Basically the budget has destroyed all confidence in the UK. I’m so glad I’m not 18 -25. Damn
