I met Woody Herman in 1973 when he and his band played in Ahoskie, NC. I was a music student at a near by college and got to meet him after the show because he knew Mr Brown, my sax teacher/professor who took me to see them play. He was amazingly humble and nice, and allowed me to take some pictures of him with my Kodak 110 cartridge camera.

It's just hard to believe that in the early-mid 1960's when this was televised Woody had already been a bandleader then for nearly 30 years. He went on for more than 20 more well into the late 1980s but as a teenager in the 1970's and being able to see WH and his Thundering Herd the number of times that I did back then I wouldn't have dreamed it would all be gone by the time I hit the ripe old age of 30 in 1990. They were all gone by then and there's been a giant void in music ever since and it's just too bad nobody will ever get to see a band like this on this level ever again. The sound was so big it would pin you to the walls without loudspeakers and they took care of business like nobody's business.

Phil Wilson’s solo is better here than it is on the album and that one is pretty awesome !

This song was from the album, My Kind Of Broadway. My first exposure to great jazz, blues, swing and ballads in 1968. I love Woody, his style, timing, career persistence, individual standards and respect.

Milwaukee’s own - Woody Herman!
Trivia - he was featured in the halftime show for Super Bowl VII on January 14, 1973, at the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum. The Dolphins finished the only undefeated season in NFL history.

Just before going on air:
Woody Herman: "Our set lasts six minutes."
Ed Sullivan: "You have 2 1/2 minutes. Make it fit."
Woody Herman: "OK."

Заслуживает внимания потенциал человеческий. Правда, не в нужную сторону направленный (употреблённый.
