This was wonderful to see. Before I received my doctorate, I substituted in various schools. Usually, when I reported to the school, I was assigned to either Special Education classes or having to accompany elementary school students on a field trip. Now, the difference between the 2 assignments was #1 field trips = not knowing around 20 or so children while enjoying the sights. #2 Special Education classes = children with differences. Lots of questions & they especially enjoyed "tricking" the substitute. We laughed and sometimes cried, but best of all, we trusted each other. Once, while walking through a shopping center, a young girl grabbed me and was in the makings of a wonderful hug. I was startled at first. However, when I saw her face, I realized she was in one of the Special Education classes. My husband was very startled and went into protect mode. I quickly said this is one of the students I had while I was at school. He wanted to know what she had grabbed & hugged me. I told him I helped her with a problem, and that made her happy, and she hadn't forgotten that interaction. ❤
