update: new story content has been added! this video is now obsolete.

I haven't talked about a more artsy game since the Omori video. Plus I get to talk about a NEW game for a change.

Behind the Frame: The Finest Scenery is an interactive fiction game about an artist trying to finish her art piece for an exhibition. All the while, she observes her elderly neighbor. You work on your painting, perform your daily routines, gather clues, and solve puzzles to unravel more of the story. The game was developed by Silver Lining Studio and published by Akupura Games and Akatsuki Taiwan Inc. If you like art, point and click adventure games, and an anime/Ghibli inspired artstyle, this will be a fun short little game for you. The game is available on PC for Steam.

I think both did love each other, but didnt admit to them.
When MC finally got a chance to go pursue her dreams, Jack lets go of his feelings so MC can pursue her dreams without being tied to. They remain friends still no question.

As Jack got older he remembers the memories they shared together. So he made those paintings as they were a turning point in his life. Which would explain why painting MC became self aware. The feeling were strong enough.

Thats my take on the game anyways

I think it was pretty obvious throughout the game and dlc that Jack did love Amber but just never told her. During the dlc you can tell that when he was younger he had some self confidence issues and might’ve thought that he would drag her down if he confessed. But eventually I think he did move on somewhat. He didn’t marry and he obviously still loved her at the end but he moved on enough to continue his life. Though I don’t think Amber loved him in that way so it was a one sided love. You are right that the man at the end is her actual husband and their kids/grandchildren. It’s a really sad but beautiful game.

Recently, I started watching violet evergarden, and I think that the idea of art telling stories really set in for me. I love the idea of seeing beautiful environments telling a story like this

I just finished the game, it's funny because this video at the time didn't have the DLC so it's like Amber's point of view, she met an artist friend and had a great time, that's all, both made it to their dream I guess, happy ending?
But then with the DLC we get Jack's point of view, things gets real sad. It reminds me of this movie from Makoto Shinkai called 5cm per second

To me, Jack was remembering where she used to live. So the old man across the way was him as she painted, ( the split between the apartments where they met eachother with the cat) and how she would soon move away to New York?? I think. They had become very good friends and as she told him she was going to New York, there was a pause in his face like he was going to tell her something, but he smiled sadly and said, "Congratulations." It seemed like a one-sided love? From how I see it, I don't believe the girl was in love. She knew him as a friend and Jack knew that, so he didn't say anything. At the end, the painting of her across the way was from Jacks point of view. That was the last he got to see of her. And the last she got to see of him. She cried because at that moment she finally realized how important Jack was as a friend and what she didn't know. The idea of, "You don't realize something is important to you until its gone." this is a mixture of many other theories but the one I've seen the most is that its from Jack's view, because you only see him growing old in the opposite apartment where she stays young. He made all those paintings, to remember her for what she was and (I'm guessing) that was his last painting. The portrait of her painting in her apartment. She would continue to paint with more meaning, based on the last scene looking at her future self. I believe it cuts back to her perspective by then. She can't go back so she'll just look forward with what family she does have. And must I say that song to end it off made me really happy and sad inside.
