Shounen MC's are getting darker. I'm loving it. And it's not the typical edgy darkness like kaneki. This is due to their circumstances pushing them towards this darker setting. MC's like Yuuji, Denji, and now Deku will have to change their perspectives from now on.

When Deku was enraged he looked like an high-end nomu. Hell, he might be a natural high-end nomu due to having six quirks with one for all.

Something that I'm seeing a lot of people missing is the fact that NOBODY but Deku can handle the current situation, AFO, and Shigaraki. The Pro Heroes even came to this realization this chapter. Which is why they don't want to further burden him. All Might understands this too, but couldn't find the words to say it. The issue here is that everyone else needs to level up to the situation to actually reach Deku. This arc is exposing the fact that Stain was right about All Might and Deku being the only true heroes. The moment the civilians turned on the Heroes, everyone bounced. The current character arc with Deku is showcasing the true burden of the hero that even Superman admitted to... you can't save everyone and you gotta live with knowing that.

Him hiding his emotions with his mask makes sense if you remember that the reason why the design of his hero costume came from All might. He is burdened to be the symbol of peace that all might was before and the only way is to be All might.

He’s having a hard time smiling. Deku has always wanted to be like All Might, a hero who smiles when he saves people. He’s putting on his literal mask to hide the fact that he can’t smile in spite of the world, can’t smile in front of his idol as he’s doing what he wants to: save people. He’s a legal hero, he is mastering these quirks, and he’s trying to save his world, but it’s not anything like he expected from entering into U.A and the end of the war. All of his friends, heroes, and himself got hurt, and the burden has become too much.

And people had the audacity to say he didn’t change.

Izuku's losing his light (reminds me of Gon in the Chimera ant arc and Yuji after the Shibuya incident). Basically having the fate of the world in his shoulders is taking a huge toll on him in a pshycal and mental sense

The beauty of this arc is that it’s also consistent with what we know about All Might. He too pushed away those closest to him like Nightyeye. Hence when All Might tires to reach out and help Deku he understands. Overall it was this and this arc that pushed Midoriya into my top five favorite Shonen protagonists. He was already in my top fifteen/ ten but this character turn I very much love as it reminds me a lot of Allen Walker from D Gray Man in that moral gray( pun intended) and circumstances forces our protagonist to reconsider what he stands for and ultimately ends up changing.

That last panel of Deku in 317 where Deku looks like symbiote spiderman / carnage

Honestly I was waiting for this. Even before everything went to hell I knew that deku would one day reach the point where he feels completely stressed out with too many fires to put out. All for one just accelerated the time frame. The manga art on demon deku though is simply sublime. His frayed clothing, broken arm bracers and black whip make him look absolutely sinister. But yeah at this point while I love deku’s development I really hope the man gets a ducking break because he needs it.

Deku shows that even good hearted protagonists can go too far into a negative spiral, and I think it’s a good lesson for life. I love how darker these mc’s are getting.

Honestly I was expecting something like this to happen but I never wanted it to because of how much I care for deku. If seasoned heroes couldn't bear the small amount of burden that was put on them how could you expect a 16 year old to carry an even heavier one.

I love how Deku's vigilante costume is a reflection of himself in the moment; not that he's becoming an evil person, or even a darker person in nature, but how his body and mental state are being worn completely ragged by his tireless need to do heroics, no matter the cost it places on him or the perils that could come with getting too little food and rest. His visage becomes even more poignant when you realize that he's become Stain's ideal hero, encompassing all the Hero Killer could have ever wanted from the convictions placed in his warped ideology, while at the same time showing its flaws laid bare.

It bothered me for so long that deku never actually wore his effin mask when he was in his costume, but now it all makes sense. Even when he did wear it it was so goofy and loose, such a genius way of showing both how he literally and metaphorically had to grow into the power/costume/responsibility and also how even when trying to conform to the hero program his personality and deku-ness couldnt help but peak through. And now... he's receding further and further behind his mask until his eyes completely disappeared into the darkness. The visual storytelling in this show is just... on another level.

I think midoriya is coming to terms with his own heroic image. He initially tried to model himself on all might and thought all might as the pinnacle of what a hero could be. Subtle nods like the shootstyle show us deku is fundamentally different in both attributes and character. Deku being more analytical and not raw strength or even being a smiling hero. But with the recent arcs. Him being possibly the last OFA user. People losing faith with the hero society and the revelation of hero societys hit squad. Hes become a hero who does what is necessary. The smiles. The hope. He cant bring that. All he can do is save as many lives as possible and stop AFO.

He was raised with the virtues that friendship is everything.. as long as he has them he can win and overcome anything. He's fought an opponent that is a legit hax. He KNOWS nothing his friends do can compare to that burden. He doesn't want them to get hurt and understands the weight of OFA. That's why all might is staying by his side... Deku isnt going evil.. he's being an absolute human for once. Hang on to my childish dreams and be weak..not become something that can stand between them getting hurt.. he's protecting them and I refuse to think his mindset or resolve as weakened any! If anything it's at a all time high.when and IF all might dies... Deku will be unstoppable. All of ALL MIGHTS attributes will be powered into deku. He fought AFO and won in a suedo skinny form waaay past his prime. Deku is gonna be a abeast

Something I love about the development that this story portrays is that from the very beginning, the image of All Might as the Symbol of Peace is shown as a heroic and magnificent ideal to follow. But then as the series goes on, it shows more and more just how toxic that idea of a singular "greatest hero" saving everyone is because it's just not ideal. It erases the fact that heroes are humans with limits as well in favor of an image of utter, unrealistic perfection that no one can truly reach, not even All Might himself. And through Izuku in the recent chapters, we see just how damaging that ideal can be, as he literally tries to save everyone on his own. I also love how the later arrival of Class 1A sort of offers the alternative idea of working together to better society instead of dumping all of the responsibility on a single person's shoulders.

At the end of the day, everyone's hopes and dreams rest on Deku's shoulder's now. Defeating All for One and saving Tomura is in his hands now. But that doesn't mean Deku has to do everything on his own. If the majority of Pro's had any backbone to them or grit, they could be lessening Deku's burden by simply handling small-time villains and thugs and allowing him to deal with the bigger threats. But the majority of Pro's are gone now, and while Endeavor, Best Jeanist, Hawks, Mount Lady, Kamui Woods, and Edge Shot are all assisting wherever they can, it's not enough. He's tackling assassins, hired guns, Tartarus convicts, small-time crooks, as well as saving civilians and even having to subdue out-of-control citizens. He's spread far too thin, and his physical and mental state is paying for it. And what's worse is the looming presence of All for One, blowing people just because Deku did what he does best and brought out the best in them or simply rigging a whole mansion to blow up not to kill Deku, just because he wants to mess with him by endangering everyone around him. Deku knows that anybody close to him is in danger, which is why he is trying to distance himself.

But here's what's worse, I don't think since this whole going solo phase started, have any of the Pro's actually asked him how he's feeling. All Might has been trying to take care of him, but Deku's not really had a chance to express himself to anybody. This is the same kid who used to be mocked by some members of the fandom because he got overly emotional and cried a lot. He's bottling up his own pain so as not to burden others as a hero would, but at this point, I think Deku just being allowed to open up and vent to at least one person would make all the difference to his mental state. After all, when a hero is in pain, who will protect them? As cheesy as it sounds, what Deku needs right now is a shoulder to cry on, a brief reprise from his stoic heroic persona where he can be a teenager again, where he is allowed to be vulnerable again even if it is brief. personally, I think that role will ultimately fall to Uraraka, after all, her arc revolves around saving heroes who are in pain. She was Deku's first close friend in years and I think if anyone can reach/comfort him, it would be her.
