The CEPR Media Plurality Research and Policy Network (RPN) held the 6th session of the Media Plurality Webinar Series, on Monday, 9 December 2024, at 5 PM (CET).

This session featured Professor Arianna Ornaghi (Hertie School and CEPR), who presented her latest paper, “Media Consolidation” (co-authored with Josh McCrain, Gregory Martin, and Nicola Mastrorocco). This groundbreaking research delves into the consolidation of local TV stations in the United States, examining how ownership by major conglomerates affects advertising, local news coverage, and even political knowledge.

Following the presentation, we were thrilled to host a policy discussion with Professor Angelo Cardani (Università Bocconi), former President of AGCOM, Italy’s national regulatory agency for the communication industries (2012–2020). His expertise provided valuable insights into the regulatory and policy dimensions of media consolidation.

These enriching and thought-provoking presentations were followed by an interactive Q&A session led by Professor Julia Cagé (Sciences Po and CEPR), leader of the RPN.
