This is one of the all timer live recordings. Vocalist Ian Gillan, who also played the part of Jesus in the original Jesus Christ Superstar album, drummer Ian Paice, organist John Lord, guitarist Ritchie Blackmore and bassist Roger Glover, they were all amazing on this.

Thoughtful comments there at the end and I agree. It's pretty fascinating to me. Check out Highway Star from the Deep Purple album machine head, which is itself iconic, if you really want to get your socks blown off.

So glad you enjoyed the ride Polo! Please also checkout Highway Star. Imagine flying down the highway in your friend’s ‘68 Z28 Camaro with Highway Star blasting on 8-track on crappy Jensen speakers and you’ll get an idea how much DP influenced me during my teen years. ✌️❤️🔥

Awesome song, in reference to the Vietnam war, sweet child in time, young men at war, good and bad, flying lead, bullets ricochet, screams were of the terror of war

Ian Gillan's vocals are hard to beat in this time period....he was FABULOUS in Jesus Christ Superstar (GREAT soundtrack - that album) - AND: a good movie. Haven't watched your reaction, yet: but I hope you like this one.... The range and control this guy has is AMAZING.... Good rabbit hole, in my opinion....

Thanks for this reaction, this song is 53 years old! Please check out “Highway Star” and “Smoke on the Water” from Made in Japan. They are always better live.

The "Unholy Trinity" Led Zeppelin, Deep Purple & Black Sabbath were a very significant combo that helped define the 70's and beyond

In my opinion this is the best Rock Anthem ever written and performed.
No lip synching, no recorded version playing in the back, just talent.
You won't find Mariah Carey singing live like that.

No effects, no auto tune, live master artists.

This performance is required viewing for everyone who has never seen or heard of Deep Purple. Their live album Made in Japan is a top 5 live album ever for me. Many great bangers. Woman From Tokyo, Smoke On The Water, Highway Star, Burn, Space Truckin, Hush, Stormbringer, Lazy just to name a few.
Deep Purple, Black Sabbath and Led Zeppelin are referred to as the “unholy trinity” of British hard rock and heavy metal in the early to mid 1970’s.
Great song, great reaction. 🔥🤘

You know what is weird about my generation? We took this level of music for granted. We expected this level of excellence from our musical heroes. We all grew up practicing piano, organ, trumpet, violin, drums. We studied the classics, big band, jazz, the Blues. At some point in the 50's we switched to guitars and electric basses. We sang in choirs. We listened to early trend setters. We learned lessons from those that came before us. And more importantly we knew what great music sounded like. Leonard Bernstein knew it when he heard the early Beatles. George Martin knew it. Berry Gordy knew it. We were 25 years in the making and we did not disappoint.

This one is always a good one for reactors. People can’t seem to wrap their heads around how Ian sings.

I can't imagine hearing this for the first time as an adult. I grew up listening to it back in the '70s, such an awesome, awesome time for music!!

Those high notes he is hitting with his voice are completely in tune with the chords but two octaves an incredible ear!!!!

You said it, Polo!!!

Wait until you hear their most legendary song😂Smoke On The Water.😂most know guitar riff on earth😂❤❤Ian Paice is a full on beast mode on drums😂RIP John Lord😢Keyboards, Ritchie Blackmore, guitar, ian Gillan, vocals. Seen them 2 shows, 2018 both with Judas Priest. Ian and Rob pushing 70 years old😮still hitting those high notes❤❤😂😂and bass i think is Roger Glover.
