Shizuku Tsukishima is a bit of a book-worm, spending her last summer vacation in junior high school reading and translating popular foreign music into Japanese. With aspirations to one day become a writer, Shizuku can't help but notice that the name Seiji Amasawa appears on every one of the books she borrows from the library.

Through a series of curious and magical incidents, she comes to meet Seiji and discovers he has dreams of becoming a famous violin maker in Italy. the fact that he read most of the books in the library so that she'll notice him someday, oh my heart.

Why is no one talking about the massive existential crisis themes in this film. Not knowing what you’ll do with your life in the future, forcing yourself to pursue something even though you’re scared you might have made the wrong decision. Regretting to not be the kid you used to be, that had everything figured out.
This movie really captures a lot of young people’s anxieties, including mine. It’s so real.

the most underrated character was seiji's grandpa. his encouragement and bit about finding your own gem is something every young person needs to hear in their life.

Whisper of the Heart is one of those movies that has fondness slowly and quietly growing in you. The director, Yoshifumi Kondo, was brilliant in story telling.
The part about finding the gem in yourself, and not to give up when you still have tons of work on polishing is soft spoken. Whenever I felt like giving up, that gentle voice and imagery would encourage me to go on.

I know this movie is Japanese. But this really represents how beautiful Japan was. It is a typical japanese style like the city, school, uniform, bus, cicadas, cats, bike, river and more. If you wanna watch a typical japan style this movie is for you.

This and Only Yestarday are one of my favorite Ghibli films because there's nothing epic happening on screen, just a "slice of life". These beautiful & pure moments on the screen felt like they're my own memories, even any of this never happened to me.

The best moments for me:

1. When Shisuko sang while Seiji was playing violin, then the whole team came along.

-I was giggling the whole time 🤗

2. The end credits.

- can't describe exactly but it was really heartwarming

It makes me feel nostalgic about the memories I never had. After watching, everything about the people in this movies still lingers on.

Remember kids:
If you’re only able to direct one film in your whole career, make it a masterpiece like Whisper Of The Heart.

One of the best films I've watched thus far.. captures the essence of everyday life excellently.. the emotions, the feels, the amount of details in the animation, the realisticness, everything is just wonderful... :)
