I like Penang. I found much to do. I am an open minded curious friendly person so perhaps this makes a difference. I easily met locals and I found them very responsive. Penang has most everything if you take the time to look

For a younger person I can see those “cons” but for retirees that lack of bar scene and nightlife sounds wonderful. It was fun in my youth but I no longer like putting up with the loud music, fights, drunks, puke and glass on the streets that come with a “vibrant nightlife”.

Jeez, the comments... Chill guys ! His opinion ! As a Penang kia myself... We locals know where the night life places are, where the cheap food and accommodations are... hidden non-tourist places... We all know that Georgetown/Gurney has become a tourist place and naturally, they're gonna be more expensive... But rilek la with the comments. Instead of attacking, why not we educate, instead ?

The biggest con for me is that the sea in Penang isn’t appropriate for swimming, as the water is milky and full of jellyfishes. So you can walk the beach and enjoy the view, but can’t swim, which is a bit frustrating.

As an expat longterm resident in Penang I would say that this is the most inaccurate review I have read about the island and its people. However, I guess everyone is entitled to their own opinion, but please don't let this video put you off visiting this wonderful location.

Malaysia is an islamic country. Of course there isnt much night life like drinking, clubbing, discos, nightclubs or casinos. If youre looking for those entertainment, i suggest you go to philippines thailand or hk.

I live in Penang, and I don't think he has been many places around in Penang before making this conclusion, the information is completely inaccurate. There are plenty of night life in Batu Ferringhi and Georgetown area. If you are looking for hanky pinky stuffs, go to Thailand. As to how difficult to mingle with local people, it's all depends on you. We don't normally offer strangers to your house, unless we know you enough, right? Does this applies to you in your homeland?

G Town? we Penangites never call George Town with G Town, more known as Tanjong, meaning cape in English

Inaccurate at all. Even the first sentence is totally wrong. "Close to KL and Singapore? It's 4 hour drive from KL and 8 hour drive from Singapore

For your info...award winning malaysian whiskey is called timah. Who said beers are not manufactured here? Carlsberg has a factory here and Guinness stout as well. However some like tiger beers.

What a load of crap and inaccuracies. It's obvious that the problem lies with your own narrow mindset, not the place and the people.

The Cons I hear here, are only cons for young people (or personst who try hard to be 20 forever) who get here after study, or people who start being digital nomads and try to live the life they are seeing. For digital nomads who actually work and earn money and doing something, some of the cons are even pros.

This is 180 degree different opinion that I've seen everywhere else.

At this point in my life a "limited Night Life" is not a negative.

You obviously didnt visit Burma Road or at the end of Penang Road that we call Little Penang Road as both have Night Clubs and KTV Bars, and its Love Lane and NOT Lovers Lane. Love Lane as a lot of Bars for the flashpackers group as well as Guest Houses for them, bunk beds etc. I lived in Penang for years but now its way too busy for me.

I think you need to be willing to be friendly and mingle around to get to know the locals. To say that the locals like to keep to themselves is not an accurate statement.

Why is GeorgeTown not a great place to stay? I heard it’s very nice and affordable place to stay? Do you recommend a better place to stay?

Many rooms for improvement of this video. More homework is needed before filming.

Check out "The Expat" videos. Anyway Penang along with Singapore and Malacca are world reknown places. Penang has always been known as the Pearl of the Orient. That title was not for Hong Kong nor bali nor philippines.
