You know, it's funny how something you never thought to do suddenly seems so obvious once youve seen someone else do it. Case in point; It never occurred to me to just spray the black primer from below only. I've always based the entire mini in black then sprayed from above with the grey, followed by the white. Thanks for showing me this method. It will save me time, paint and keep me from obscuring details on the miniatures by avoiding unnecessary layers of primer. 👍

Damn, looks a hell of a lot better with the primer. Got some board games with miniatures I'm considering just using this technique.

Really good tips. Quick, but effective overview of the technique.

Nice video, good tips.

I can't paint minis for shit ... been trying since the erly 80s, and it's a nope ... giant hands + nerve damage + no artisitic ability = nope ... and I just zenithal my minis with spray cans, either black then white, or black then grey then white, then hit them with a sepia wash. Makes all my minis look like pieces from a nice chess set. Not amazing, but better than plain plastic.

I use it in base color and highlight color then paint details with brush then apply washes. For speed painting armies.

Quick question, on my first try I got a very rough and kind of sandy result. What am I doing wrong? Or am I missing something? I do see little specks of with on your models too.

I'm going to try and do this zenithian priming on my Ultramarines for WH40K with lots of experimentation. What you don't mention in this video is that in order for the Zenithian priming to be observable / effective with your paining, you really have to apply a translucent set of paint layers each as a GLAZE. I'm a little unlucky in that ultramarines have their main colour as 'macragge blue' and that's a Citadedl BASE paint which is more opaque than the Citadel Layer paints which are more conducive to be converted to GLAZES than Base paints like Macragge. Apparently you use Glaze medium to covert your paints to glaze then apply the thin translucent layers to make the zenithial prime paint show through underneath. Anyone know the magic formula for converting Citadel Base paints to a glaze ?
