I'm surprised you call Photoshop a cheap deal. The subscription model adds up over time. And there are several options with comparable performance for a one-time fee that is less than a year's subscription.

Interesting topic. Maybe a printing test would reveal, if upscaling really helps. If you can see any difference in prints, that is.

Think about it, this is really a sharpening tool using intelligent (programmed) interpolation and local contrast and effectively what digital engineers in audio already call a "digital filter."

You wanted to show us a lot in one video. What is missing here is a comparison of details at a magnification of 400% to make it clearer to everyone how the super resolution works.

Thanks Peter. Nicely done. I have done some testing with older digital images from 10-20 years ago, 3-8 MP and it is nice to have the enhancer. I thing I’m my tests I find that Adobe is a little better with landscapes but Topaz has more fine tuning ability with people/faces as the subject. I think it’s nice to have both options when restoring and upsizing older files wanting higher resolution for prints or 4-8k resolution in screens running a slide show for example.

Thank you for this Peter! I will be able to use this newfound knowledge right away, perfect timing as I shot some images needing some cropping. I look forward seeing the result! Might even be worth revisiting some old photos... I'm waiting for a delivery of some prints I ordered, just a normal consumer photo development site. I see it as a "test run" to see how it turns out, I ordered at least one quite large one. It would be interesting to hear your experience in printing as I assume you have some great knowledge and tips.

We have a file that we have been working on for a while now. I was delighted to see this option in Camera Raw. At this point we have had a good result by opening the file from Lightroom then using Topaz AI Sharpening, then upscaling it with On1 Perfect resize 2021. It's a big crop from OMD EM1 MK2 40 to 150 mm With 2x converter. We are still working on this one It's a great shot of a flying Owl. Thanks for your help and inspiration. I have the 300mm F-4 on the way. Mike

Software evolves! Small sensor cameras can benefit greatly, imho. Smartphone users, huge market, could be pushing this demand for tools & AI processing. Cool!

I use Affinity instead of Photoshop, but this was still interesting... and that was a great use of the 360 camera in the beginning Peter!! Cool stuff!!!

I think these kind of computational photography features benefit the MFT system immensely. Why lug a large and heavy camera around, just to produce high resolution images? I can even take the 10 and 12 MP images from my old FT bodies to print a whole lot larger than I was able to before. I guess sooner or later we'll also see AI driven algorithms to eliminate noise without loss of details. By then, there really is little reason for most people to spend thousands on expensive cameras.

Did not know it's possible to open jpegs in ACR. Thanks for that. I'm a designer and too often have to work with crap images, so being able to use ACR on them before hacking them to pieces in PS is very handy.

Seems like overkill for Instagram... Resolution has become a bragging competition for idiots. First, the only need for that kind of resolution is printing large, which very few people do. Second, image enhancing is still garbage in, garbage out. Everything that goes into good image quality must still be there - lens quality, aperture setting and camera stability are all key elements, none of which can be overlooked.

Maybe I’ll reconsider my take on Photoshop...But I haven’t taken a second look at you being and remaining in Olympus visionary Sir. Just saw were Robin Wong has re-upped his contract! Hope to see your name back in place soon! No matter, you remain a visionary :-)

I do this all the time with Drone panoramas. Even with the small 1 inch sensor.

Instead of subscribing to Abobe, you can by Topaz Gigapixel. It works well for upgrading JPEGs, which is more normal than upgrading RAW.

Great video Peter - as you say I can see it being of value for prints and cropped photos. It would be good to see what it does with a jpg file.
