My dad was 10yo when this video was created. He lost his dad in 1918 to a railroad accident. Four years later his mom lost her battle with TB. He finished growing up on the streets walking from town to town stealing food and sleeping under newspapers after stuffing some in his clothes to survive the outside overnight cold. He worked 6.5 days a week to ensure his wife, their four children and her four siblings always had nutritious food in their bellies, shoes on their feet, clothing, a roof over their heads and good educations. He died aged 85 after a hard life. I love you dad. Thanks to you I’ve had a wonderful long life. I’m an old (octogenarian) retired scientist.

My family is from here. I'm a Canadian, but my grandparents are from Groningen. Its an amazing thought that I could be watching my great-grandfather or maybe some of the kids he knew, playing on the street. Over 100 years later, too.. someday soon maybe someone will say the same for me.

I absolutely adore watching these kind of films from many years ago watching people that now today no longer exist. It really is amazing to watch people going about their day. Kids having fun makes you realise just like little time you have on this earth

Miałam takie dzieciństwo. Całe dni na świeżym powietrzu, mnóstwo kontaktów z innymi dziećmi. Sami wymyślaliśmy zabawy, żyliśmy prawdziwym życiem. Teraz nie ma dzieciaków na ulicach, wszystkie siedzą schylone nad smartfonem albo gapią się w komputer. Wolę moje dawne czasy. Wolę moje wspomnienia skromnego, dobrego, prostego życia. Pozdrawiam 🙋
