Number 1 problem, Samsung nerfing Samsung Notes on any PC except Samsung PC. I use a Surface Studio Laptop, so it is OneNote on my computers and Tablets.

Although I own quite a few Samsung devices, the first thing I'm looking at in 2024 with note apps and other similar services is their availability on different platforms. Although Samsung Notes is a great app, it's only available on Samsung deices and on Windows laptops only if made by Samsung (and from Galaxy series only). It does kinda offer syncing with OneNote, but it doesn't actually work most of the times and it's extremely risky to rely on that. The main reason I'm avoiding any Apple product is refusing to be locked into an expensive ecosystem (and their OS and UI, but that's a different story) and although I like Samsung products and own quite a few Samsung devices, the ast thing I'd do is locking myself into its ecosystem and rely on any apps that aren't available outside of that system. Once they fix the syncing issue and/or make the app available more widely, then I may use it as seems impressive otherwise, but OneNote is available on almost every platform in one way or another at least - might not be as fancy these days as it used to be in comparison to other similar products (like Samsung Notes), but it's the only app that has the basic of syncing and availability covered (other apps that has these basics covered as well are simply not as good as OneNote) 🤷‍♀

love samsung notes for written notes, and i only use onenote for typing stuff. i have, however, recently had that highlighter problem when using imported pdf black/dark page templates into samsung notes. 😢

I just did a quick test of recording audio in OneNote for Windows on my laptop and it works great. I can move it around just the same as moving a textbox around. I spent several weeks using Samsung Notes before switching over to OneNote. The latter works for me. What was a deal breaker for SN was how tedious it was to arrange my notes into notebooks and sections. The hierarchial nation of ON just works for me.

Also the ability of ON to handle Microsoft Office Suite of documents seamlessly is another plus point. I wanted SN to work. But alas ON works far better for me.

Haven't used the hand writing or drawing features of ON much. I found the hand writing on SN to be easy. I'm guessing its going to be pretty much the same for ON.

Another feature comes to mind for ON. You can make backup copies of your notebooks and they will be in individual files which you can backup and move around and make copies of. They open up just fine in any ON app. In SN I think you can only backup to Samsung Cloud or print to different formats.

I have the Samsung S8 Ultra too. Looking forward to using OneNote on it as well. Currently I'm using it mostly on my Windows laptop. OneNote I find is an excellent tool for research and writing and inclusion of office documents of various file formats. Its Notebook, Section, and Pages arrangement is great for the way my mind organises notes.

I am a learner and to be honest I like how onenote organizes things as notebooks with chapters and stuff, but the options accessibility and quick grasping of possibilities points go to samsung hands down. I seriously dislike the one note handling of texts wrote with the keyboard as text boxes.. plus the date there all the time... is just annoying.. fom samsung notes I dislike how it moves around your notes even if you don't want the system to sort it by date... maybe i am doing something wrong

One Note works amazingly on a computer, but it's sadly limitated on a tablet. I love using ON and I thought I'd have at least most of the features on my tablet, but I was mistaken. I got a tablet and gave away my pen tablet cause I thought it would be at least similar, but no 🤡🤡🤡🤡🤡🤡

Have you looked at colour e-book devices with stylus support and Android apps? The benefit of e-book readers is long battery life. The main benefit of OneNote is true multiplatform support. Interestingly OneNote has great support on Samsung Note devices, fast and responsive.
Samsung Notes does look more flexible for students.

I was debating between using these 2 apps on my new galaxy tab s8. I was leaning towards onenote because it syncs well, but recently I tried installing samsung notes on my computer and it is working well. So I am thinking of sticking with samsung notes.

I think Samsung is better for taking notes and one note for organizing all the notes as a database and for reviewing.

Thank you this was very helpful. I want a tablet for my work but need something that syncs well with my work computer so ideally a web app/onenote. Tempted to look at the iPad just because it has a much more fledged out version of one note.

It's extra work but I mainly use my tablet at my desk so I have my classes on my computer screen with a side by side of one note and what I can't do on my tablet I do on my computer and it syncs pretty quickly ( ie page sizes ) I loved the one note on my laptop and used it as a tablet before I got one but once I did I was severly disappointed with lack of features on the tablet

Big fan of Samsung Notes, stop using it after can't afford S Pen support device; most utilise function voice recording while meeting (it will sync the notes & voice recording) & photo add on for project. Utilize Onenotes but most functions need to preset from Microsoft Office even the default background template for each section & color of the section.

I enjoyed your attenpts to be unbiased, when it was clear to me that Samsung Notes is just a much better app.

I would definitely use it for all my notes if it was available on non-samsung phones and computers. I'd gladly even pay a few quid if needed, but Samsung reeeeally want you to buy their devices it would seem!
