The integration of refugees into European communities has often been fraught with tension as many feel unwelcome.

But some Italian towns, suffering from emigration, poverty and lack of opportunities, are now witnessing a revival with the arrival of people from Syria.

Al Jazeera’s Sonia Gallego reports from Camini in southern Italy.

From Italy. These people don't live in the village as the videos seems to imply. They live in a SPRAR close to the village. SPRAR is a shelter where refugees live, assisted not by villagers but hired personnel.

The people in the town are happy with Syrian refugees because they are glad they didn't get Africans instead.

The south of Italy would not have emigration from small villages if the government didn’t neglected them! I know in every culture and religion you have the good and the bad, but unfortunately most of the Imams of the Muslim world are anti west! If one day Europe needs help, I’m pretty sure they will not open there doors to us.

A Syrian man who starts five children is an evil man. Syrians are at war with each other because they have too many people for their economy to support. What do people do when all the agricultural land is in use, and there are more people than there are ways to earn a living? They can live in poverty, leave, or force others to leave. But now there is nowhere to go. The whole world is overpopulated.

Who is paying the asylum seekers? How are they eating? The Italian taxpayers are paying for the schools.

As long as some of these refugees be grateful for their opportunity of life, then they can be functioning members of society. The thing is however to solve the problems in their home nations is a difficult and complicated process.

What's the problem here with all these negative comments? Have you ever been in Italy? These villages, especially in South Italy, are inhabited mostly by old people, since the young generation prefer other kind of works and they go outside in big cities. So, most of these towns risk to disappear in a few decades. Is a bless that there are people who can help to save our traditions. Everything else is just brute racism (did Trump brainwashed all of you already?)

This is a really smart idea, italian villages are losing it's ppl and it's historical culture so sending migrant to these villages to revive the population is the best solution to both problems, it's like killing 2 birds with 1 stone!
