Funny thing is when people create a functional programming language, based on what needs in the real world, people start adding procedural and oo stuff in, eventually all languages are hybrid.

As a linguist and a developer myself I often search for such topics to see who and how promotes ideas of linguistics and philosophy, like communicating with people first and only then sending instructions to a machine, in software development as the industry suffers from lack of proper communication and mere understanding of its importance. I was glad to hear such ideas having been voiced, but I was rather disappointed that only 10 out of 50 minutes were devoted to such ideas and no elaboration was provided despite the title of "functional programming thru the lens of...". You were discussing functional programming all the way through, although this paradigm very old and everybody seem to have already heard at least one word about it. Not much use.

Excellent video! You answered some questions I had about functional languages. I'm from Philosophy, I don't know coding, but I´ve read "Structure and Interpretation of programming languages" and I became very interested about LISP and its dialects.

I think Anjana's talking too much :). A dialog with the moderator would have been much more interesting and constructive.

Functional programming is more than 60 years old.

she says very few things using many words, quite the opposite of what you achieve with a functional language
