I was born, raised and served in the USAF. All US military swear an oath to defend the constitution, but in our hearts we also dedicate ourselves to being an armed wall between the enemies of the US and its' citizens. So at that moment you WERE the most important think in the world to them, an American.
Do not mess with the US military. The only thing holding us back is a politician.

My gf was in the Peace Corps in Guatemala. Although stable at the time, there was a recent history of insurgents and kidnapping. As a Peace Corps volunteer, you are an employee of the US State Department. She was informed during her in-country training, that if there were to be violence, the Marines and SEALS WILL come get her. Bless the USA!
