The fact that this show can go from this character literally drinking piss twice moments before to THIS is just amazing.

Charlie was raised by an unstable mother, had an abusive uncle, was tormented and humiliated by his peers and often also by his only close friends all through life, has a clear developmental disorder, a completely warped and deranged view about how to attract a woman and form a healthy romantic relationship with her, and several addictions all the while having a very difficult if not impossible time distinguishing fantasy (dragons, ghouls, goblins) from real life. That "I needed you" was heart braking for those reasons.

This is the moment that makes you realise Charlie Day can get pretty serious when he wants to.

I like how the phrase "I'm glad you're dead" makes the audience think the scene will delve back into dark comedy before Charlie adds, "Now I don't have to wait the rest of my life for you to pick me up" and makes the scene heartbreaking.

This just proves how Charlie definitely has the acting chops to portray Mama Luigi.

god his voice breaking in the middle of "you were supposed to carry me" as he falls over on his dad's body is genuinely heartbreaking
mac's dance impressed me amd made me feel but this scene really shook me to the core
i guess when the show is so goofy it's easy to forget that all of these people are real ass actors

While it was disappointing that Frank isn’t Charlie’s real father, the end of this episode proved that he is Charlie’s dad. Heartwarming end to another season.

This and Mac dancing in "Mac Finds His Pride" seem to be some of the most important moments in the show. This scene genuinely made me cry.

What makes this scene hit even more for me is when he says he needed him. Charlie didn’t just need a father figure in his life, he needed that father figure to save him from his life. Charlie was abused as a child by his uncle while his mother did nothing, if he had a father then he never would have let that happen.

I am not saying having a dad in general would have stopped the abuse I’m saying THIS dad in particular would have stopped it with the series portraying him as kind and protective of Charlie.

This scene really puts into perspective how horrible Charlie's life is and how warped every relationship in his life is. Neglected by his mother, molested by his uncle, clinging to abusive and narcissistic friends throughout his entire life, living in squalor with Frank, psychotically pursuing the love of a woman whose name he doesnt even know and who for her part is repulsed by him. We know all this about Charlie, but it is viewed through the lens of comedy. This actually hughlights how tragic Charlie truly is.

The ability for this show to go from slapstick comedy to deep tragedy without missing a beat is why it’s a masterpiece

Mac’s dance, this scene. They will somehow find a way to make us cry with Dee or Dennis soon. Such amazing writers/actors.

This scene hits hard, Charlie Day really is a fantastic actor. "You never picked me up from school, you never read me bedtime stories, you didn't carry me on your shoulders, you didn't bounce me... you weren't there.. and I needed you... I needed you there.." that shit had me teary eyed as hell.

I always crack at "I needed you"
it is insane how a good enough actor can make someone with 15 straight seasons of despicable behaviour genuinely sympathetic in just a few lines

This is worthy of an Emmy nomination. It is so raw and real and heartbreaking. And so unexpected in a show like this. You just want to grab this guy and hug him and make the pain go away.

Charlie Kelly is the most emotionally complex/empathic character in the entire gang

When Mac came out to his father, I choked up. This legitimately made me cry out. The two most important moments from Sunny. Both of them dealing with their fathers. Unbelievable show.

It's not only the combination of Charlie Day's great performance but it's the fact that they also used the same Amazing Grace Scottish bagpipe music they used in Tommy Boy when Tommy's dad died, just a great scene and a great way to end the season for Always Sunny.
