Stopping the Recession: This is the first priority. Good oral hygiene, including brushing and flossing properly, can significantly help. Your dentist can also recommend techniques and tools for better cleaning.

Gum Grafting: This surgical procedure involves taking healthy gum tissue from another area of your mouth or sometimes even a tissue bank, and transplanting it to the receded area. This can cover exposed tooth roots and improve gum health.

Regeneration Techniques: Some procedures aim to stimulate your body's natural ability to regenerate gum tissue. This might involve using membranes or tissue-stimulating proteins to encourage new tissue growth.

If you're concerned about receding gums, it's important to see a dentist or periodontist (a gum specialist) for a proper diagnosis and treatment plan. Early intervention can make a big difference in preventing further gum loss and protecting your oral health.

While the notion of simply regrowing gums after gum recession might seem like a dream, there's no need to despair. While true gum regrowth isn't currently possible, advancements in dental treatments offer a ray of hope. By addressing the underlying cause of gum recession, whether it's aggressive brushing or gum disease, we can stop the tide of receding gums. Furthermore, procedures like gum grafting can meticulously reconstruct the gum line, effectively covering exposed tooth roots. While these techniques can't magically make gums regrow, they can significantly improve both the health and aesthetics of your smile.

Talk to my dentist? They seem to believe it’s inevitable and irreversible. So I’m here

Hello Dr. Rachel,
I am so very grateful that my quest for healing my gums brought me to you in this video.
For the past year I have been "all worked out" by my dentist and 4 months ago, she told me that she was going to pass my case to the periodontist in their dental office.
I have all my teeth but I do have some gum recession, although no bleeding and no sensitivity.
Since I am 69 years old and live from my retirement pension I, of course, count and measure every penny that is asked from me.
So, I told my dentist that I could not afford the treatment and said goodbye.
Since then, I have been researching this issue of the receding gums and I have trashed the tooth paste and the mouth wash and the toothbrush that I had and got an electric toothbrush with medium head and I brush my teeth with a mix that I do with coconut oil and pulverized cloves.
I do the oil pulling at night and then I wash it with salted water and then I swish with half a teaspoon of pure Xilitol.
My gums are looking prettier and my teeth feel smoother after one month doing this.
Please excuse me for this very long comment, but I would appreciate your thoughts and suggestions about my "method".
Thank you very much in advance and best regards!

I am 50 and from Eastern Europe. We were shown in both nursery and primary school how to brush properly and brushing the gums was always part of the routine. Not as much for cleaning it but to masage it. The fascia has to be stimulated. It is a mucous membrane after all and a lot of nutrients absorb through it being in the first section of our digestive tract.

Can you please provide visuals of HOW to massage your gums?

I took your advice from a coupke years ago and clean teeth every 12 hours. Also, I started using cotton balls instead of a brush. Thymol (cumin) in mouthwash and add a dropper of oregano oil to the cobtainer is very effective. L-Lysine in a little water tightens the gums over time. No more recession, no pockets, and what helps also, I avoid sugar.

I agree with your unconventional take on soft brushes, the medium I switched to took off tartar, and my gums feel stronger. Thanks and thumbs up

My gums were helped by taking high amounts of Vitamin C, Vitamin D and CoQ10. I'm not recommending anyone take high doses of anything but its encouraging to know that supplements help and I'm sure its especially so if you are low in anything. I've been taking most of the other things mentioned but will add xylitol. Also I may try brushing a just a little bit harder and see how that goes, thanks.

I started to brush my gums only, massage them & i have no bleeding & my gums are better. But i seem to clench my jaw, teeth which isnt good so im starting meditation & practices to let go & destress. Thanks for reminder to ditch sugar & take xylitol mints & ditch tooth paste & do oil pulling. I start these & then forget!! Dentists are not holistic, they use invasive therapies ...in Canada we dont. Have many holistic dentists if any. Thank you so much!

Thank you so much for your clarity and advice. I have some 9-11mm pockets, and my oral care and the hygienist deep cleaning (inc GBT) is not clearing the deeper infection in the pockets especially at the top front where I have 65% bone loss. My dentist wants to remove 11 teeth (inc 3 wisdom teeth, the top front teeth and some of the lower teeth) in order to "turn the tap off" on the infection and trying to save the other teeth I have left. I know that there are spirochetes and entamoeba in the gums from a sample taken by the biological dentist. I am feeling quite depressed by it all. I am following your advice with the gum brushing, doing oil pulling, salt water rinsing, interdental brushes, trying to get the bristles up the gums to clean with natural toothpastes and powders. I am wondering how I can clear the infection as much as possible from deep in the pockets without taking Another dentist suggested periochips which dissolve in the gums- do you think there is a case for this in severe gum disease such as mine? And do you think I should agree to the extractions? He will then use a laser to clean and then try to regenerate bone and gum, to place hopefully 100% zirconia implants. Thanks for any advice or suggestions.

Thank you for your info. I was recommended to use Aloe vera gel/xylitol mix and swish around mouth for a few minutes twice a day and once a day do a sea salt water mix rinse, would you say these methods are okay in helping receding gums?

Informative video, thank you. Always make the video as long as it needs to be to give a fuller message and ignore the ignorant YouTubers that want messages as short as possible. Keep up your helpful work.

Thank you for this video, it’s so helpful. I’m going to try your suggestions. Do you have any toothpaste and manual toothbrush recommendations available in Australia? Also, any alternative ideas to xylitol if you don’t tolerate sugar alcohols, they cause me gut issues. Thanks 😃

If you create a healthy environment for you gums to grow. How soon do you notice the gums growing? Also how long do you have ot massage your gums with the toothbrush? Thanks.

So it can come back? Mines started to regress because I was trying to clean my teeth better but I used an electric toothbrush. My dentist said the recession is not too bad but the damage is irreversible. I feel so bad that I could permanently damage myself this way by accident. Thank you for giving me hope that it can heal in the early stages.

Thank you Dr. Rachael for giving me hope when all I hear from my hygienist is that my gum tissue won’t grow back. Your video is very helpful and right to the point. Blessings 🤗

Unfortunately, I have been grinding my teeth since 2020. I had beautiful teeth and gums before I started grinding my teeth. Now my teeth are chipped in the front and I have receeding gums. Very discouraged. Thank you for the video. I also oil pull and feel much better wheb I do. I must say I'm very impressed that you give natural options. I'm also very impressed that you reply to almost everyone's comments. Thank you for your work and dedication!
