some people say its inspired from 'Vikram Betaal' indian folklore tales. 'Vikram' is a righteous king and catches a ghost called 'Betaal'. everytime vikram catches betaal, betaal narrates a story to vikram, on the condition that he doesn't say a word or else he will escape. at the end of the story, he asks betaal for his judgement or else he'll kill him. vikram uses his intellect to arrive at the logical conclusion and betaal escapes. and so on the tales continue
