I am an ATT wire technician. Our new BGW 210 RG “Residential Gateway” has a technology called band steering. You probably have 599 or the 5268AC. The reason you got the slower speeds when connected to our RG was you were stuck on the 2.4GHZ band. ATT names both 2.4GHZ and 5GHZ networks names and password the same. Doing that on the new BGw210 enables band steering (which automatically assigns the faster 5GHz network to closer and newer devices, while at the same time assigns farther away and older devices to the 2.4GHZ network.). The 599 and the 5268AC have the same type of naming scheme however most new devices get stuck on the 2.4GHZ network. AT&T is sending it’s 1GBPS customers 940mbps down and 940mbps up. With a BGW210 I have personally tested 940 down and 940 up over Ethernet and 625 down and 730 up over wireless.
