Actually the phantom stranger doesn’t have 1 origin story but rather 5 all which are canon and happening at the same time when a black lantern tried to posses him it saw all 5 at one time the phantom stranger even said “You’ve seen everything and yet nothing at the same time” or something like that but the whole thing is that is origin doesn’t matter he is supposed to be shrouded in mystery hence the name the phantom stranger
