Calculus 1: Lecture 1.2 Finding Limits Graphically and Numerically

preview_player
Показать описание

This lecture follows Larson's Calculus book, section 1.2.

I actually didn't do any limits numerically until we did the homework, but I stopped the recording for that part.

Summary of Topics
- Informal Definition of a Limit
- Remarks regarding limits, the existence of a limit, and the notion of one sided limits
- Examples of computing limits from a graph
- Examples of computing limits analytically(this is actually 1.3)

Please leave any comments or questions in the comment section below. Thank you:)

I wish I had teachers like you back in the day. They all seemed so upset and never excited by math

I had a teacher like this, 30 years later when my kids took calculus I was there to teach them. I remembered nearly all of it and I continue to learn mathematics after I retired, it's a subject that can fill a lifetime of learning.

As someone who isn’t going to college but is still learning math your lectures are huge! Really helps to have a person write stuff on a board and be in a classroom environment. There lacks a lot of energy from black screens and colored lines in other math lectures. Don’t get me wrong, they are helpful but there’s something I like about seeing a person express themselves.

Thanks!

Sir, your teaching style is very different, and amazing! You teach very fast and it's very clear as well. I recently started taking math too seriously, and math started getting boring for me, but with your amazing attitude, now math is getting quite fun for me.

Thank you for your tremendous help. I love the passion you have for mathematics (judging from all the videos I have watched) because it is so infectious.

This dude is awesome, I'd love to have him as a math teacher. Definitely someone I'd want to model when I teach in the future.

Ive been followig you for about a month now, and ive been kicking myself for not discovering your channel sooner, i am self studying for no reason orher than to challenge myself and hopefully have a better understanding of physics and chemistry as i love both subjects. I was beginning to get frustrated with my progress when i watched one of your motivational videos on not trying to understand, it helped me so much, thank you

Dear Math Sorcerer:

Thank you for the energetic lecture on limits. It would be fantastic, if you could do a lecture or demonstration on the Epsilon Delta definition of limits and the associated proof.

Many of us who are either taking calculus or have taken that in the past do not have a thorough understanding of the concepts.

Thanks again and I look forward to viewing the material that you have posted.

I learned this in 1974, but I never went past the first course. I am amazed that I can still do a lot of the problems, but don't remember why some of the rules work. But your videos on math books have awakened my love of math. Now I realize what an idiot I was for not specializing in math. But the bottom line is that its just fun. Your videos give me hope.

Great video, I am in high school and I am behind in my math program because I did not take algebra in 8th grade. I plan to major in physics in college and this is a great help to getting ahead, explained easy, love this.

Dear Math Sorcerer:

Including the time when you work problems can be extremely helpful to anyone who wants to learn how to do calculus problems-- myself included, especially.

Please consider doing the problems and your videos.
