Once again, the very best explanation for this game I have seen. This game is so much more complex than any of the others! Can't wait to try it!

Thanks for your thorough instructions. Now, I have enough understanding to give the first game a try. Amongst our gaming group, we now each have one of the four versions of Azul!

While I wish I had seen this prior to last night's game, halfway through we realized our box came with 2 sets of butterfly tiles and no bird tiles, so we literally could not play the game. This video will be helpful, assuming either Next Move or the OLGS sends me the missing tiles or makes it right.

In a 4 player game we found placing 5 tiles per garden expansion to be better. This is because the number of tiles you have access to changes depending on the number of players. In a 2 player game you have 4*5 tiles + 5 garden expansions for a total of 25 combinations of options, so 12.5 tiles per player. In a 3 player it's 4*7 + 7 for 35 total or just under 12 per player. For 4 players, with the written rules, you'll have 4*8+8 so 40 total or only 10 per player. This makes getting sets harder than usual, especially given you are now competing with 3 others. With 5 per draw you have 5*8+8 for 48 options, which brings you back up to 12 per player in a 4 player game like in the 2 and 3 player versions.

The game is about making sets and so in my board gaming club we agreed that facilitating that was better. You will also cycle through the bag again and fill more than a 3rd of your board which feels a lot nicer. I think you should give it a try if you play it 4 player. Have fun.

I think they could have called this one Azul: Calico. 😁
Looks good though (except for the accessibility of some of the colours used).
