A good death is its own reward.

-- A righteous one liner.

So no one talking about the brave colonel. He stood his ground with faora in Smallville, and sacrificed himself here. Not to mention he talked back to her during their first meeting.

That actress who played Faora played the character so well

I like to imagine that Faora and Colonel Hardy are hanging out in the Phantom Zone telling each other old war stories.

Here's a funny thing about the Phantom Zone: everyone that was sent there are still alive. The Colonel, the scientist, even Faora and the rest of Zod's forces are still alive. (Although the Colonel and Scientist are debatable considering they DID crash a plane so it is unlikely they survived the crash but best girl Faora definitely survived.) This means our favorite Snyder female Kryptonian can come back.

-If you destroy this ship, you destroy Krypton.
-Krypton had its chance.

Not an easy choice. Good job Snyder.

I don’t think there will be anyone to replace Michael Shannon as General zod, the true emotion he puts into the character is absolutely amazing.

Notice how all those guys in the military did their duty, stared death down without blinking. They had no chance of surviving but they kept firing and sacrificed themselves willingly

I love how when he says, "A good death is it's own reward" she looks at him like she's gonna marry his ass

When Superman says that krypton had its chance, he wasn’t wrong. The Kryptonians destroyed themselves with their own arrogance and hubris and ignored people like Jor El and Dru Zod who, while their visions suffered, both realized that their planet was dying. Superman chose a race that still had a chance and was worthy of survival over an essentially dead race that blew their chances.

In my opinion, Shannon’s General Zod is absolutely phenomenal. He’s bred to be a general and to fight to protect his people. That is one theme of the movie. Freedom of choice. Zod does not have that freedom. He was bred to protect krypton and even if he has to kill an entire race to do that, he will.
Zod is a unique and complex antagonist in Man of Steel, I believe he is the best iteration of the character yet. Zod wants nothing to do with having superpowers. He cares not to rule over the humans or flaunt his superiority over anyone. He just wants to bring Krypton back. He doesn't care about Earth or its people and he's not maniacal in his desire to destroy the human race. He doesn't seek to torture or maim anyone for his own self-gratification.... He just wants to get rid of them to make way for a New Krypton.
Even though Zod is genetically bred to behave a certain way, his motivations are extremely relatable nonetheless in terms of longing for home and the comforts of sameness - Zod isn't trying to shake things up by rebuilding Krypton on a lush planet where he could literally reign as a god among insects... He wants his home back. He wants to be normal. He couldn't care less about having superpowers or reveling in being a godlike being. He seeks normalcy - and that makes him far more 3-dimensional than any other interpretation of Zod to date. It's very much the same as Dorothy from Wizard of Oz; Oz may be a great place to visit with a million exciting novelties to enjoy, but there's no place like home - even if it's a bland black & white world.
