A DSLR is a Digital Single Lense Reflex camera which means it has a mirror that allows you to look through the lense of the camera. They also usually have bigger image sensors than compact cameras and have more manual control over the image you shoot

The Sony alpha 230 is one of the cheapest entry level DSLRs you can find at the moment. However, it doesn't have Live View, which lets you compose shots on the LCD screen. This can be handy for first-time DSLR-users. The slightly more expensive alpha 330 has a Live View LCD screen, so might be worth considering instead

Just got my A230 ! and it's a great little DSLR to use and I dont mind the lack of live view. it more than makes up with some of the other useful features.

The battery can be a little tempermental though as with the flash it drains substainally quicker than without it, I reckon without the flash it would get 500 Shot's with it wont be anywhere near maybe 200 shot's maybe slightly less. My battery was on 2 bars after only 2 day's after buying it.

yes it shows the pictures that you have taken by pressing the review button in the bottom right hand corner of the device.

I have this camera but cannot take pictures in the dark with it. I have tried many settings but no sucess.
