Day Trip to McKinney 🎭 (FULL EPISODE) S11 E12

Though it sits outside the ever-sprawling Metropolis of Dallas, McKinney has found a way to keep its small town charm. With a bustling town square, hundreds of years of preserved history and alot of good eatin', it's a great place to slow down for a day.

Sitting on the square, the Groovy Coop is a novelty and totally groovy antique shop! Find everything from funky artwork to retro video games and records!

The old 1874 Collin County Courthouse in the middle of the square has been turned into the McKinney Performing Arts Center. The courts have been swapped out for a stage, and some folks even think it might be haunted!

The Collin County History Museum in the old post office is the perfect place to start a historic tour. There’s even an augmented reality app you can download for the exhibits to see how the city has changed over the years. It’s pretty cool!

Chestnut Square Historic Village is 2 city blocks full of homes and stores dating back to the beginning of McKinney in the 1850s! It’s awesome to see how well preserved this history is. And it even comes alive with demonstrations on certain days, like a fully working replica of a blacksmith shop!

Calling all shoppers and barbecue junkies — stop in at this market for the B.O.B. (brisket on a biscuit with jalapeno blackberry jelly, that is) and stay for the shelves of fresh baked cookies, sweet smelling soaps and handmade candles.

This is the “people’s backyard.” A place where the locals come to hang, eat, drink and play. Serving up delicious “Tex-Ranch” style cuisine out of a historic home, every night is a block party!

Locally popped and flavored in over 50 “popcoctions,” this is every popcorn-lovers dream. Try the wild combos like jalapeno caramel popcorn or go crazy with a little mac-n-cheese-flavored popcorn. Sweet-tooths are also in for a treat, because it’s also an awesome candy shop.

This old grocery store warehouse-turned upscale-restaurant is probably not what you picture a Texas BBQ joint to look like. But Local Yocal Bar & Grill is taking fire and meat to another level. Sure, they serve up the traditional ‘que, but they’ve also got a dry-aged 20-oz Wagyu Bone-In Ribeye that’s to die for.

Outside is 289 acres of wetlands, prairies and forests. Inside is tons of exhibits on our local environment and (most importantly) LEMURS. It’s a wild time.

Another element of the Heard Nature Center is this ropes course full of team-building (and heart-pounding) challenges. Bring the family for a little bonding and friendly competition.

FOLLOW MY ADVENTURES.

Thanks for showcasing our great communities in north Texas and Collin County in particular.

I've been a McKinney resident for 4 years now, used to brew beer at Franconia back when Dennis owned it. Great town and I know you're limited by time, but you only scratched the surface of the good eats and drinks to be had on the Square!

Moved to McKinney almost 2 years ago from San Diego California. I haven’t even been to any of those places yet.. didn’t know about a few of them. I’ve been downtown many times and my hair salon is there… need to get down more and try those places!!

When I was much younger, I attended the McKinney Job Corps and never knew such a wonderful place was nearby. I love these old towns that have hung on to their beautiful buildings and there's actually quite a few of them still around. I think the old courthouse in Weatherford is one of the most beautiful ever built. I really want to visit all these places you've been sharing. Think how valuable your shows will be if our economy collapses and all these places close, then you will be recording how good it was before it all fell apart.

My mothers home town, I was married in that courthouse. You walked right past a shop that my grandmother used to own. It used to be Kiddie Covers. A childrens clothing shop. Around the corner from the courthouse is the old city jail. Clyde Barrow was arrested and spent some time in that jail. McKinney has grown so big compared to when I was a kid.

The historic cotton mill is also really cool! Part wedding venue, part hip technology offices, part abandoned spooky factory!

It’s so fun seeing shows from places I know. Local Yocal is one of our favorite places, as is the Heard. I definitely need to spend more time on the square to try some of these other gems.

This is good but it had to be actually filmed before Covid. The salsa shop has been closed for about 2 years and the candy jars in Mom & Popcorn are all individually wrapped now. But cool to see McKinney represented.

I love all your videos,
I am following them, one after the other in order to gather as much information as possible for my trip if all goes well next July (many people have advised me not to travel to Texas at this time, at cause of heat)

Collin McKinney (April 17, 1766 – September 9, 1861) was a slave owner, land surveyor, merchant, politician and a lay preacher. He is best known as an important figure in the Texas Revolution, as one of the five individuals who drafted the Texas Declaration of Independence and the oldest person to sign it.

Thanks for the video. I have noted a few places that I will check out. Can you by any chance recommend a good hotel in Mckinney. I am going through booking and google the places look fine at first but the reviews are disheartening 😢
