This Leaf has only six of twelve bars on the battery state of health indicator, so it's down to 50% capacity already, which is probably why the main dealer could not sell it. For it to have gone so badly in only eight years and with so little mileage is concerning. However, the warranty covers 8 years or 100, 000 miles, with replacement or repaired battery if it falls below 9 bars (75%) capacity, so should have been covered. Why has it not been resolved?
From the Nissan website:
30 KWH LEAF : If the battery capacity level gauge of your 30 kWh Nissan Electric
Vehicle falls below 9 bars (out of 12 bars) within 100, 000 miles or the first 8 years of
the vehicle’s life (whichever comes first), Nissan will repair or replace the damaged
battery components free of charge to bring the capacity up to 9 bars.

Perfect sort of thing for retired grandparents with a home charger whose sole reason to get in a car is to drive to the shops and back or go to pottery class.

that car just breaks my heart. sure some people might think it's ugly. But the previous owners took the piss and they just mistreated the battery.
30 kwh Nissan leaf is actually a sweet vehicle. 120+ miles range, which is more comfortable than the 80+ on standard one. And 30kwh wasn't even prone to battery degradation. The owners just went out of their way to only charge it from 90 to 100%. Probably a council car

The bulging headlights are like that for a reason, to keep the airflow off the door mirrors to keep wind noise down.

Had a second gen 40kwh leaf on lease for 2 years and absolutely loved it. The e-pedal one foot driving is hands down a game changer and something that other EV’s just don’t do as well. We have an MGEV now and it’s just not as good at one pedal driving.
One issue is that the leaf has air cooled batteries not liquid like pretty much all of them now, so for running and gunning motorway charging the battery can overheat and just reject charges. But with a home charger and local second car, leafs are wicked.

Anyone looking to buy specifically a leaf is going to research it and at the very least understand the battery capactiy bars. At 6 bars of battery health there is no chance that is worth 6k.

Got rid of mine 6 years ago, 60 mile range was such a pain in the rear. The 12 volt normal car battery died after 2.5 years of ownership. Other than that I liked it but I haven’t had an electric car since and it would take a change in the tech for me to come back

If this still has a bit of the 8 year warranty left, get to Nissan ASAP - with 6/12 battery bars left, this could be a candidate for a replacement battery under warranty.

I love my 2019 Leaf. Its so nice to drive. Just on the charging part, a 30kw battery would be fully charged in less than 45 minutes on a 50kw DC charger, no need to leave it all night. I haven’t got a charging point at home yet so use the 3 pin domestic supply and it easily charges fully overnight.

I have a 2016 one handed down from my dad's taxi company with still 9 bars and 90k miles. We have a charger at home. It's a great commuter car, nothing more. Great Bose Soundsystem, heated seats and a relaxed commute thanks to cruisecontrol and no engine noise. Hopefully we can get the battery replaced under warranty soon.

I remember travelling in my friends leaf when my car was in for a service. He accelerated from the carpark onto the main road and I'd felt nothing like it and I've driven an Aston V8 vantage! That leaf is really quick 0 to 30

6 bars battery health?
Scary unless that really more than covers your commute.
Outside Tesla, public chargers seem to have been designed by oil companies wanting you back on petrol.
When people say "keep charging them" they generally mean on AC - better for battery health.

Hi Matt. Another great video. Love the channel. Never miss one of your videos. However at the end of the video I always feel a little bit let down. What happened to the car? Did you get a quick sale?
It would be great of you could do a monthly/bi-monthly video covering cars that you covered on previous videos, saying if you sold it and any story behind the sale (if any). This, I feel, would bring the story to a completed end. How about it?

I think it’s been owned by council or something like that, and they have just left it plugged in when not in use . The low mileage is representative of little use since new so it’s been left at a high state of charge for those 8 odd years which is really bad for the battery.

My wife's cousin just sticks to roads close to her house, never goes on motorways, only has an automatic licence and has a driveway at her house. This would be her ideal car.

I love the step back when the charger starting doing noises. Just a casual "Gon' explode, innit?" safety step. Love you, man :D

October last year in NZ I also bought a 2016 Nissan Leaf, but a 24kWh one. It had 109k on the clock, 9 bar battery, full charge range of 120km - love it.

I bought an MG EV (not LR version) a couple of years ago. Quoted mileage was 200, actual mileage with good weather was about 180. The horror story was in cold weather, heater on and lots of motorway driving it was 135 range. A 230 mile trip to London to see FIL needed a stop halfway and then a stop near London to recharge to 80% (so 100 miles range @80%). After 2 years had enough, traded in for a Hyundai Kona, quoted mileage was 300, nice weather 275 actual and very cold/motorway around 220. 220 miles I can live with, even trips to London only really need 1 good stop. Added bonus is we have solar panels and a 7kW house charger so half the year our fuel cost is tiny, the other 6 months its about £16 (27p per kW) for 220 - 250) miles range from house charger - I wouldn't want to be charging all the time on public
