That’s actually genius. In spring we have this one area that turns to slop but only for that season so we don’t wanna do anything much to the area. This would be a great environmentally gentle solution! Thanks Nate for the ideas!

Straw is a life saver during mud season. Not only dose it keep you from falling, it helps protect seeds for new groud cover.

This is a FANTASTIC idea. We're going to be having a manufactured home built in the next year or so, and most of the lot it's going on gets VERY muddy when it rains. We will absolutely be using this method

“Erosion material” or Emat keeps the ground form eroding away while the grass grows back too

Interesting! They're putting an addition on the building I work in and I noticed them putting down straw the other day and wondered what that was about. Makes sense.

We throw straw down around white houses with fresh dirt work just in case it rains. Easier and cheaper to throw down straw than pressure washing the bottom foot of a whole house.

Throw some grass seed down on that straw. It helps with mud and everything.

Tree fallers use plywood sheets so that their crews and equipment can move back and forth on your property without damaging your hardscaping and landscaping. Straw works if it's only the humans crossing over it. If you are using wheeled or tracked equipment, then at least one section of plywood would improve access.

If it is really dusty you can throw straw down and wet it too. The straw helps hold the water from just disappearing. I used old grass clippings because it was free.

Another benefit is if you plan on planting grass around where you’re working it will stop the birds from eating all the grass seed as it’s much more of a pain to get to as the straw protects it!

On another note, I'm so excited to watch this garage build! I know Nate has to be proud of the way everything he's wanted is coming together ❤❤❤

"most of you aren't contractors on a construction site" - well he's right about that. I just scrolled and had no idea I would even be looking at this

Yes, the straw keeps the mud down, however it does put straw everywhere. You will vacuum up straw for awhile. Only way to avoid it is to take off your shoes before going in the the living quarters.

OK, so here’s my take. I’m the man that delivers all of your block. All of your rebar. I deliver all of your rod chairs. I deliver all of your poly. I deliver all of your lumber treated and non. I deliver all of your nails joist hangers in any other hardware.. I deliver all of your doors. I deliver all of your windows. I deliver all of your sheet rock, mud and primed trim. I deliver the Tyvek. I deliver the Rex wrap. Did I say hardware? Because that is along with several different of these deliveries. I deliver ridge vents. Ridge caps. I delivere the hardware again. I deliver the multiple different kinds of adhesive in tubes. That’s part of what I meant when I said hardware, but I felt like I spell it out. I deliver the driveway package when the home is near done. The one by four yellow pine. The treated one by four. The expansion gap. The poly. Hi you may not know me. But it would sure make my day if your job site was cleaned up just a little bit. I’d really rather not have to trudge my way through a delivery. Because at my job, we work rain or shine. I take pride in my part. I promise I do. I don’t know who this somebody is but somebody please do your part. That straw. That hay. Those wood chips. And just being all around more tidy. Makes my day so much better. If you don’t do your part. don’t get mad at me when I drop your load out by the street because I just can’t make it to your job site. I’m seriously not trying to be covered in mud before lunch or have to climb over an obstacle course before lunch, thank you. 🙏 I’m super proud of a few contractors that I deliver for. Then there’s the other contractors. Lord help me.

Love your content, but I have to say when I hear your voice and I don't see Minion, I get temporarily mad 😅

Most industrial/commercial sites I've worked on lay down plywood
They have lots of money

I put bales of hay under my doublewide for my dogs 30+ years ago. The volunteer grass from them is thick.
