Swamp Soccer - ugly version of the beautiful game

The genesis of swamp soccer was in 1998 when creative town officials in Hyrynsalmi cooked up a festival-like event that would make use of the area’s vast swamplands.

It’s hard to imagine an uglier version of the Beautiful Game.

For the Swamp Soccer tournament, each team plays in a group of four with the winners and best losers progressing to the knock out phase. Teams are made up of six players (and unlimited substitutes), and games last for 24 minutes. The playing surface (the swamp) is similar in size to a five-a-side pitch.
