An undershirt does a number of things: 1. Hides you skin so that shirt doesn't look transparent. 2. Makes the shirt color true. 3. Keeps errant hairs from popping out. 4. Make the shirt hang better. 5. Makes a shirt last longer. 6. Keeps perspiration in check. 7. Keeps you warm, even in warm environments. 8. Reduces chafing. A gentleman can wear a v-neck if the shirt is open, but make sure chest hair is trimmed. Also, a v-neck is good for shirt and tie to reduce bulk around the neck.

You don't have to wear an undershirt, but you should wear an undershirt if you care about maintaining the integrity of your expensive shirts. Deodorant causes dark rings in the underarm of the shirt. Because your undershirt acts as a barrier, you can prolong your shirt. V-necks are the way to go.

Hello Brian, I wear undershirts under a dress shirts, as I love the comfort a good fitting V-neck undershirt. In the deep or intense colored dress shirts you will not see the undershirt below. But a tip if you want to wear a undershirt under a bright color dress shirt: Use a light brown / cream color undershirt which is nearly the same color as your skin. I heard that advise from a style consultant, and it works! It is invisible and you don’t see it through the dress shirt. Cheers, Andreas

another tip. make sure its a v-neck so you don't see it when you unbutton 1 or 2 buttons from the top.

I agree. I hate when you can see that someone is using an undershirt. Just looks sloppy.

We should wear an undershirt because everibody sweats.So if you dont want to be a greasy bad smelling guy you are obliged to wear undershirt.The undershirt will protect your body from odors and sweat.Every day you will wash only the undershirts and you can wear shirts for 3-4 times.But if you dont wear undershirt than you will sweat in the car, in the store, in the birou and then you will need to wash every day the shirt you wear that day, because its STINKY!
