My cousin is a dental assistant and she told me a story one of her professors told the class, I don't remember the date of the story but I heard it 5 years ago, basically there was research conducted to regrow human teeth by implanting a clump of cells in the place of an extracted tooth, he said that the moment the experiment showed success the team was disbanded the research buried and all the members of the team were moved elsewhere with a very healthy bonus for going away without making a fuss because what else could they do? Millions and millions of dollars and hundreds of thousands of people are employed by the industry, making that go away isn't easy.... we'll probably wayt forever for this gel to hit the free market. Maybe our grandchildren will see it in their lifetime 😕😕

There are some limitations to this research though:
1. The enamel grow back is really thin, only several micro meters. If you already see decay on your teeth, it is probably much thicker to that.
2. One of the components used to catalyze the reaction is not very stable and might cause a little bit poison effect.

There is a toothpaste on market slightly modifies the components( poison side gone), but as I mentioned, it can only help grow back very thin layer of enamel. If you already have decay, your erosion speed is probably much quicker than the building speed.

In dentistry, everything is always in the near future. Dont hold your breath. Sonar, stem cells, now gel. 10 years from now, you will be reading the same article. Probably by then they would have tested it on pigs and once more say "in the near future"

The dental fillings themselves are the problem. Resilient and technically advanced they have become over 180 years from starting out as metal, they are still foreign to the mouth and tooth structure itself. That is why it would be so beneficial to be able to grow real dentin and enamel back into the tooth crown. And no, the dentists, dental industry, and or pharmaceuticals would not loose their jobs over this. Bacteria and cavities will always exist. It's like trying to take air out of the environment. Dental hygiene will always need to be maintained, so will check ups and tooth products etc.

This is incredible, hopefully in the next decade maximum enamel will be able to be regrown and strengthened naturally.
