People tend to forget that Germany has also made a contribution with some very important inventions.
1. invention of the chip card (credit card or key card). - Roland Moreno and Jürgen Dethloff 1970
2. x-rays - Wilhelm Conrad Röntgen 1895 (Röntgen is the german word for x-ray)
3. light bulb - watchmaker Heinrich Göbel 1854 (but the American Thomas Eddison applied for the patent).
4. letterpress printing - Johannes Gutenberg 1440.
5. the telephone - Johann Philipp Reis 1859 (Like Göbel, however, Reis did not apply for a patent for his invention and it was not until 1875 that the telephone was further developed by Graham Bell and finally patented by him).
6. the dynamo and the streetcar - Werner von Siemens 1866.
7) The first motorcycle Gottlieb Daimler, and the first automobile Carl Benz (1885) Bertha Benz drove over 100 km with her children in her husband's first automobile.
8. the glider - Otto Lilienthal 1894.
9th The painkiller Aspirin - Felix Hoffmann 1897
10. the candy gummy bears - Hans Riegel 1922
11. television - Manfred von Ardenne 1930
12. the first computer - Konrad Zuse 1941
13. the MP3 format - Fraunhofer Institute 1988
and some other inventions.

I find Brazilian Portuguese so much easier to understand than European Portuguese :) (I'm European). Maybe because you generally talk more slowly and enunciate much, much more clearly.
