Exploring Plitvice Lakes National Park, Croatia!

Plitvice Lakes National Park is a must see with its sixteen pristine lakes, all interconnected by a series of waterfalls and streams, all surrounded by lush green forests. Get lost in all of its beauty as you stroll along, listening to the sound of nature all around you.

Plitvice is the oldest and largest national park in Croatia and it doesn't disappoint! There are different trails to choose from based on how far and how long you're up for walking. The shortest trail takes around 2-3 hrs and the longest trail is 8+ hours.

The shorter trails only see the lower lakes, and the longer trails see both the upper and lower lakes!

The beauty is truly endless, you'll never run out of stunning scenery, and the colors of the water are almost too blue and green to even be real.

The pathways that go in and around the park are all beautiful wooden planks, which give the whole park more character. I think metal pathways just wouldn't fit in there.

You just might want to watch out if you bring small children, because there aren't any railings or anything to block anyone from falling off into the water. Quite often it's open on both sides, so it might not be the best choice for energetic toddlers! (I know I'd be nervous bringing our small children)

The pathways are indeed magical, though, and bring you next to the waterfalls, on top of the lakes and all around the spectacular Plitivce Lakes National Park.

You'll also have the chance to ride a boat across the lake to continue your trail (or head back to the start). What's great about the boats, is that they're all electric, so they won't pollute the pristine water.

In my personal opinion, fall is the best time to visit Plitvice Lakes National Park. The leaves are changing colors, the crowds are a lot less than in the summer months, and it's a nice temperature to walk around and enjoy nature.

I visited Plitvice a few years ago and on my day the sun shone and the place was just magical, beyond description in so many ways. I did the right hand side of the lakes through the big one and what a brilliant day. I am hoping to visit Krka waterfalls to compare.
