I found with both french and spanish that watching shows with subtitles ( in french and spanish) was crucial for learning how to distinguish the words. With both, initially * couldn't hear what they were saying at all, despite knowing the language fairly well. Subtitles allow you to split up the words from what initially seems like a continuous stream of undifferentiated syllables, and gradually you learn to interpret the spoken language at speed.
Even though I know french quite well now, I still tend to put up subtitles - mostly I don't read them, but every now and then a phrase or perhaps even just a word is not clear, and I can quickly look at the subtitles for clarification. That way, I don't miss out on learning opportunities.

Try Jive Radio. It is NPR stories from Latin America with everyday people speaking in their normal voices with an transcript and an English translation that can be activated next to it. It is for students of Spanish. You hear and read it as many times as you would like and then listen without the transcript. It really develops your ear.

Could you do a video on how you learned English. What steps you followed and how long it took. Did you live in an English-speaking country?

Just discovered this channel. I absolutely love the little sketches in 3 parts - they have helped me so very much and the humour kept me engaged! Well done, Maura, thanks lots. Would love to see more!!

If you are using Netflix, Prime Video or something like that, check to see if audio description is available in your target language because that also introduces a lot of vocabulary. Por ejemplo, "un coche azul para delante de la casa. Un hombre rubio que lleva gafas de sol sale del coche."

¡Marhaban, habibati! ¡As-Salamu A'leiki! Estoy feliz mas que nunca. Que lindo que te haya gustado "mi bien". En mi lengua natal esas palabras quieren decir que no hay nadie mejor que tu... Gracias por la clase maravillosa como siempre. Suelo mirar los subtitulos despues, me distraen. Lo bueno es que ahora te entiendo completamente. Poco a poco se anda lejos. Cada dia me va mejor porque Maura esta conmigo. Muy feliz fin de semana. Mil abrazos. Alberto 😅❤

got a question about verbs in spanish. I've found a lot of free online resources to learn about verbs and I've been focusing on present tense verbs. But I feel ready to start learing past and future tense verbs. Anyone know of any free online resources to explore the other two tenses? :)
