AoE4 Mongol Pastures (how many villagers for each pasture?)

preview_player
Показать описание
How many pastures do you need to build as Mongols, and how is that number affected by upgrades? Let's do the math.

0:30 Basic pasture facts
0:50 No upgrades
1:50 With wheelbarrow and horticulture
2:08 With ALL upgrades (including special ovoo ones)
2:40 The 3-4-5 rule
3:00 Pastures placed around ovoos

food collection rates for every resource would be a cool video, and how civ modifiers change it!

I'm glad that someone isn't sheepish about breaking down the math of these games.

Dear SOTL, here is my christmas wishlist:
- How many Pastures fit inside the influence circles of buildings?
- Does it help to have adjacent buildings with influence?
- Does Influence stack?
- What is the best formation of Pastures around buildings?
- What possible formations are out there?
- What is the impact of sheep walking time on the gathering rate for each formation?
- Can allies farm your sheeps and if so how do their gather rates and upgrades affect the numbers of pastures required?
- If so is it worth it to replace your allies farm economy with your pasture economy?
- Can allies further buff sheep production or your own gathering rate to influece numbers?
- Can enemies steal your sheeps?
- How much gold does a pasture generate per minute if you sell the food?
- How long does it take for a pasture to pay for itself?
- Can you use the sheeps from your pastures to scout and if so how effective is that?
- How many pastures are reasonable to have for each step of the game (early, mid, endgame)?
- How many pastures fit on a given map?
- Can you create a good economy based entirely on pastures?
- If so how many pastures / villigars do you need for that?
- And if so is that the best method to generate infinite wealth out of nothing in AoE4?
- If not what is its place among the ranking?
- Do sheeps stop spawning if you clutter the space around the pasture too much?
- How does the AI handle having a lot of pastures, sheeps and villagers, so how does it scale and does it affect the overall gather rate?
- If so what is the optimal amount of villigar and pastures before the gather rate dips down?
- What is the maximum amount of sheep a pasture produces before it stops?
- Is there also a global maximum of sheeps on a map if you have a lot pastures?
- Can you block your opponent from producing sheep by reaching the sheep cap yourself?

- I will add more in the future so you might need to refresh comments
- Also please add more sheep puns in the future!

SotL is having a field day with this game. I'm happy we can get new videos to watch everyday(ish)

I guess you could say the 3-4-5 pastures is a very _stable_ build xD

The most exciting thing about AoE4 dropping is all the new content out there for people that aren't me to explain

The outdated descriptions (Lancer in Feudal, pasture generation rate, etc) seem to be due to the balance from the close beta, the Mongols was crazily strong back then with Dark horsemen into Feudal Lancer, almost unstoppable.

Hey Spirit, fun fact: you can mouse over the resources in the UI to get a resources/minute estimate

I like how the civs have more variety then previous AoE games

I've always enjoyed your AoE 2 videos. Even though I don't play online, I enjoy the campaigns and skirmishes, and your videos have really improved my gameplay. I'm glad to see you making videos for AoE 4, I haven't played all the civs yet, because I wanted to do the campaigns first, and your Aoe 4 content has been just as helpful for understanding them better. Thanks for all the insightful breakdowns!

One advanced thing you forgot, is the micro on the sheep kill, if you let all you villagers kill the same sheep, you lose harvesting time, because one villager one shot the sheep with the long animation, so leting your vils all doing the animation is useless (but asks a bit more of micro). This is especialy useful for the mogols.

so with the influence giving the 50% buff, it's the 3-4-5 rule for pastures per 15 villagers instead of 10.

Evil SOTL be like

The SOTL-Pasture approximation
The spectral sheep rule
The food linear model

Real SOTL

I like to just lay in bed and listen to this man talk about numbers. You are very relaxing

Something i've noticed playing mongols is that if I have a lot of pastures (say like 15+ which is overkill) with 30 or more on food, the collection rate really doesn't seem like I've got 30 on food. i've not checked it but I wonder if this is because of how the AI works when picking new sheeps and it's trying to make all the villagers collect from a sheep and bump into each other.

When you doubled the sheep production and your ratios fell apart, it became 2/10, 2.5/10 and 3.5/10. But change that from pastures per 10 vills, to just vills per pasture, and it becomes 5, 4, ~3. I think it's pretty fitting that your 3-4-5 rule can reverse into a 5-4-3 rule when building in range of an ovoo. Though maybe flipping from pastures per 10 vills to vills per pasture is too confusing.

This is the Spirit of the Law AoE4 content I've been waiting for!

Other thing to consider about age of empires 4 is that there is no decay

I love that mongol bonuses are very versatile. You can use the Ovoo to rush the enemy with early horsemen or do a crazy boom by producing double villagers.

You can set a gatherpoint for the sheeps for excample at the towncenter. That safes some walking time.

This was one of the things preventing me from investing more time playing the mongols, thank you so much
